Sure, Grand Theft Auto V is plenty of fun on its own, but once you’ve mastered everything, what’s the next frontier? If you’re playing the game on the PC, the answer is simple: install a few mods. Be careful what you click though, as some gamers have found out the hard way that some mods are being used to infect users’ PCs.

It all started when a user on the site GTAForums noticed some strange activity when running a routine check of what processes were running on their computer. Eventually the user tracked down the suspicious activity to Fade.exe, which had hijacked another file and was using it to connect to the Internet.

More investigation and a Malwarebytes scan revealed that the program in question was actually a keylogger. The culprit turned out to be the popular GTA V mod Angry Planes, which spawns, well, angry planes that incessantly hunt down the player.

To double check, the user removed Fade.exe and the other files that it spawned while running, then loaded up GTA V with the Angry Planes mod and watched as the process once again popped into existence. Other users quickly began to do their own testing and confirmed the mod did indeed contain the malware.

Users also identified another mod, No Clip, that had been installing the same malware. In response, popular site GTA5-Mods.com plans to “beef up the approval process on these kinds of scripts.”

“If you post compiled scripts in .asi, .dll, or .net.dll formats, the approval process will be much lengthier,” a post on the site explains. “We recommend avoiding these formats completely and publishing your mods as .lua or .cs source files, these kinds of scripts will be approved very quickly because the source can be verified.”

For more information on how to check if your system is infected, see the post on GTAForums. In the meantime, you may want to be extra careful when installing mods, whether for Grand Theft Auto V or other games.

Will GTA 6 be on PC?

Whenever a new Grand Theft Auto game drops, it instantly becomes the biggest game of the generation. We saw it with 4, 5 and we expect GTA 6 to once again shatter all sales records when it finally comes out. After a lot of rumors, leaks, and even hacks, GTA 6 is officially revealed, but not everything about the game is out in the open just yet. Aside from story and gameplay details, some big questions surrounding where and when we can hope to play GTA 6 when it does come out are swirling around. PC players especially are concerned since Rockstar has yet to release a GTA title on PC at the same time as consoles. Will that be the case once again?
Will GTA 6 be on PC?
Yes, but not at launch. For now, GTA 6 is only confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Where does that leave PC players? Well, if history tells us anything, we might be in for a little bit of a wait. GTA 5 took almost a year and a half to get a PC port, while Read Dead Redemption 2 took a year and one month. Who knows if Rockstar plans to speed up the process for GTA 6, but at worst you should plan on waiting about a year for a PC version.

According to a former Rockstar dev who spoke to IGN, the reason Rockstar delays the PC version is twofold. "The reason why a PC port comes later and not the first thing that comes out, is because they want to prioritise what sells. Most of the time, especially in the past, PlayStation was the big seller. PlayStation was the console to have. It sold more than any other console for the most part. Everybody’s playing PlayStation."

Grand Theft Auto 5 story DLC was cut due to ‘cash cow’ GTA Online, dev says

Despite us being close to the Grand Theft Auto 6 launch, we're still getting news and anecdotes from Grand Theft Auto 5's development. According to a former Rockstar Games developer, the game was set to get a story DLC, but that it was canceled in favor of GTA Online.

Joe Rubino guested on the SanInPlay YouTube channel, and you can watch the whole interview below. Rubino, who was an editor and did second-unit directing on the DLC, described it as "kickass" and "awesome," but said that the success of GTA Online meant leaders at the company didn't think it was worth investing in both projects. He didn't offer up details on specifics, but said that Trevor actor Steven Ogg was involved.

The best GTA 5 roleplay servers
A police shootout in GTA 5.

We all love GTA 5 for letting us live out our more chaotic and destructive fantasies, but you aren't just limited to being a criminal in the world Rockstar Games has created. The single-player version is packed with content, but jumping online is where the possibilities really open up. Role-play servers, also called RP servers, modify the game and rules, with players expected to fully commit to whatever character they choose to embody. If you're a cop, you shouldn't be recklessly driving and shooting civilians, for example. You can't expect to randomly jump into an online lobby and have everyone follow the rules, though. You will need to join very specific RP servers to get the true experience. While we wait for GTA 6, here are the best role-play servers out there.

Note that all RP servers are accessed through either the FiveM or Rage MP clients. You will need to download them separately.
