It’s suggested that the show floor will have working versions of the Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K enthusiast focused chips, as well as the similarly marketed chipset, the Z170. What this means for shipping isn’t exactly clear, but Digitimes is reporting that we may see the first Core i7 and Core i5 chips arrive at retailers and on our doorsteps by late August.
It seems very likely that even if that turns out not to be true, early adopters will be able to get their hands on the new Skylake hardware by mid-September. Chances are the laptop versions of the chips will show up a little later, likely appearing at some point during Q4 to cash in on the Christmas electronics rush.

In the build up to the debuting of this new hardware, other manufacturers have been getting ready for the shift. Earlier this year major motherboard manufacturers like MSI and Asrock announced they would be showing off their first round of Skylake supporting motherboards in August, so even if this new rumored showing by Intel is false or pushed back, there should at least be some Skylake reveals in the next few weeks.
While of course most will wait to see the performance numbers and feature sets before upgrading, we would bet there’s a few of you who already have a few dollars squirreled away. What part of the line up are you eyeing for your next upgrade?
