You can’t keep a good villain down, and Furious 7 star Jason Statham says he’ll be back as bad guy Deckard Shaw in the sequel to this year’s wildly successful continuation of the Fast & Furious franchise.

Of course, if you haven’t watched Furious 7 yet, you should probably consider this the obligatory SPOILER ALERT — but given how much money the movie has made so far (more than $1.5 billion worldwide), you’re in the minority (and totally missing out).

Last seen in the closing moments of Furious 7, Statham’s deadly black ops agent on a quest for vengeance was not only still among the living, but imprisoned in a subterranean prison guarded by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. That may not be enough to hold him, though, as Statham recently revealed that he expects to return for the next film in the series.

“We’re already talking about doing another one, Part 8,” Statham told Access Hollywood. “I’m a newcomer! I just got invited to the party in this last one so it’s nice to know I’m gonna be doing another … They’ve always got something good up their sleeve, and I don’t want to be the one who spoils the plot lines but there is some great stuff I already know about.”

Earlier this year, Furious 7 became the fastest movie to reach the $1 billion mark worldwide with an impressive 17-day run that saw it break a long list of box-office records. Its reign didn’t last long, however, as it was bumped out of the top spot in many box-office rankings earlier this week by Jurassic World, which is currently in the early stages of a massive blockbuster run.

Furious 7 currently ranks as the fourth-highest grossing film of all time worldwide, and is only a few million dollars short of the box office tally for The Avengers.

“The fanbase is really unique,” said Statham when asked about the series’ phenomenal success. “They really do relate to these characters, they love these characters, they’ve followed them for years and years.”

Franchise star Vin Diesel confirmed plans for Furious 8 earlier this year, and he’s expected to reunite with recurring cast members Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges in the next film, as well as Johnson. Series newcomers Statham and Kurt Russell are expected to return as well.

Furious 8 is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters April 14, 2017.

This Jason Statham action movie is popular on Netflix. Here’s why you should watch it
Jason Statham in Safe.

Jason Statham is having a great summer, since Meg 2: The Trench opened well against Barbie in the midst of one of the most crowded lineups of movies at the box office since the pandemic started in 2020. This week, Statham also had the distinction of landing a film in Netflix's top 10 most popular movies list with the 2012 action thriller, Safe. And while this movie wasn't a hit during its run in theaters, Safe is blowing up on Netflix and climbing the ranks as we speak.

Netflix does tend to have that effect on movies that were ignored the first time around. But Safe stands out among the massive library of action titles on the streamer because it knows its audience well, and it delivers everything that you want to see in this kind of movie. So if you're looking for an action fix from Netflix, these are the three reasons why you should watch Jason Statham's Safe.

Gerard Butler vs. Jason Statham: Who is the better B-movie action star?
Gerard Butler and Jason Statham hold guns.

What makes a good "B-movie?" B-movies are lower to mid-budget action, horror, or sci-fi films without the profit margins of a blockbuster or the promotion of a major studio movie. I refer to them as "why not" movies. Picture this: You're scrolling Netflix and can't decide what to watch. As you scroll past the superhero adventures and blockbuster films, you stumble on a film with one actor on the poster with a title of one to three words. If it's an action film, the actor is usually holding a gun as they prepare for a revenge mission. This premise is enough to spark your interest, so you say, "Why not," and watch.

This type of B-movie is a lost art form in 2023. The B-movie, especially the action B-movie, dominated the 1990s thanks to Steven Seagal, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Dolph Lundgren. Two actors keeping the spirit of the action B-movie alive are Gerard Butler and Jason Statham. These two action stars have headlined some of the most successful B-movies of the 21st century, so naturally, it's time to ask one question: Who is the better B-movie action star?

7 best Jason Statham action movies, ranked
Shaw points a gun in The Fate of the Furious.

Jason Statham is one of the greatest action performers of the modern day, and it seems like nothing is impossible when he's on screen. Whether it be hunting down a megalodon or participating in a death race, Statham is an action superstar. Statham got his start in the movie business with 1998's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The Guy Ritchie movie brought Statham to the limelight and marked one of many collaborations between Ritchie and the actor. Now, 25 years after Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Statham is a household name.

Many of Statham's movies are big, bold, and wild action flicks that, while maybe not the Citizen Kane of action films, are a helluva good time. The actor has a certain skill at portraying hard-shelled action heroes that are capable of superhuman feats. He's a tough guy, and his most successful performances are those that cash in on his over-the-top action-hero bravado. Statham is also an underrated comic, with many of his roles playing off the hilariously insane scenarios his characters tend to find themselves in.
