The upcoming Ghostbusters reboot appears to be moving along quickly at this point, with the supporting cast falling into place and important visual elements like the team’s proton packs and jumpsuits meeting with approval from fans. A few more members of the cast have already been revealed this week, and with San Diego’s Comic-Con International looming, director Paul Feig has ensured that anyone wishing to dress up as the new Ghostbusters team will have all the information they need about the movie’s most important props.
On the casting side, The Wrap reports that Oscar-nominated actor Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven, The Godfather Part III) and The Wire actor Michael K. Williams have both joined the cast of the reboot, as well as SNL actress Cecily Strong and Veep actor Matt Walsh. Garcia will reportedly play the mayor of New York City — a role that was previously played by David Margulies in 1984’s Ghostbusters and then again in the 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II.
The rest of the new additions to the cast will play roles that at this point are unspecified, with Williams playing a character named “Hawkins,” Walsh playing a character named “Rourke,” and Strong playing a still-unknown character.
As for any fans looking to play a Ghostbuster, the film’s director made the process a little easier by posting some detailed photos on Twitter (see below) that provide the measurements and other specifications for the new proton packs his team will wear in the film. Pressed by cosplayers looking to make their outfits as movie-accurate as possible, Feig delivered a trio of photos that detail not only the backpack props used in the film but also the wand-like tools attached to the proton packs that deliver the ghost-trapping “plasma streams.”
Set to star Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones as the movie’s team of paranormal investigators and Chris Hemsworth as their receptionist, Feig’s reboot of Ghostbusters is scheduled to hit theaters July 22, 2016.
