Divinity: Original Sin 2 Kickstarter hits major stretch goal with plenty more to come

Last month, Divinity: Original Sin 2 kicked off its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, meeting its goal on the first day. Less than two weeks later, the game has raised over $1.27 million and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

While a few smaller stretch goals had already been met, the campaign hit a major milestone on Friday. “It’s celebration time, so grab a glass of hemlock tea and [get] yourself to the nearest graveyard. You smashed through the next stretch goal, and now it’s official: the Undead will be featured as a playable race in D:OS2,” developer Larian Studios wrote in a Kickstarter update.

While much of the lore surrounding the Undead is already in place, Larian is much more fluid when it comes to how the Racial Skills will work, soliciting players’ feedback. Some of the proposed skills include higher starting health that lowers over time, immunity to the Fear and Bleed statuses, and the ability to regenerate health while frozen.

The new playable race comes on top of three other stretch goals that have already been met. At $700,000 a new difficulty called Strategist Mode was introduced, which redesigns every fight in the game with smarter enemies that come in greater numbers. The Pick A Skill Tree option and Racial Skills were unlocked at $850,000 and $1,000,000 respectively.

So far only two stretch goals remain unmet. At $1,350,000 the Pick A Skill Tree II option unlocks, allowing players to decide on yet another skill tree to be added to the game. The last stretch goal available at the moment unlocks at $1,500,000 and adds a brand new area to the game: the Hall Of Echoes.

With over 28,000 backers so far and the funding increasing all the time, it’s likely only a matter of time before the remaining stretch goals are met. Larian polled fans for stretch goals before the campaign started, so there are plenty more stretch goals left to add if or when the funding tops $1.5 million.

The Kickstarter for Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes to a close on September 30, so there is plenty of time to hop on board if you’re interested and haven’t backed the project already.

Don’t ignore this underrated game in the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection
Key art for The Punisher game in Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics.

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is out now, and it contains six excellent fighting games starring iconic comic and game characters. There is one oddball game in the collection, though: The Punisher.

Released in arcades by Capcom in 1993, The Punisher is a beat 'em up like Final Fight rather than a fighting game like Street Fighter 2. It plays quite differently than everything else in this new collection, making it the oddest inclusion of the bunch.

Connections is the latest puzzle game from the New York Times. The game tasks you with categorizing a pool of 16 words into four secret (for now) groups by figuring out how the words relate to each other. The puzzle resets every night at midnight and each new puzzle has a varying degree of difficulty. Just like Wordle, you can keep track of your winning streak and compare your scores with friends.

How to play Connections
In Connections, you'll be shown a grid containing 16 words — your objective is to organize these words into four sets of four by identifying the connections that link them. These sets could encompass concepts like titles of video game franchises, book series sequels, shades of red, names of chain restaurants, etc.
