Tracy Morgan confirmed that he’s well on his way to recovery from a tragic 2014 accident when he took the stage at the Primetime Emmy Awards over the weekend, and now a new report suggests that he’ll return to the big screen soon, too.
Morgan is reportedly joining the cast of the upcoming comedy Fist Fight, which already has Ice Cube and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Horrible Bosses actor Charlie Day attached to star in the film.
According to The Wrap, Morgan is currently in negotiations for a role in the movie, which will likely be his first movie project since being seriously injured in an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in June 2014.
Set to be directed by It’s Always Sunny and Sirens series director Richie Keen, Fist Fight tells the story of a meek teacher (played by Day) who is challenged to a fight by one of his colleagues (Ice Cube). Breaking Bad actor Dean Norris is also attached to play the school principal, and 22 Jump Street actress Jillian Bell will play a guidance counselor.
While the initial report didn’t identify Morgan’s likely role in the film, The Hollywood Reporter later indicated that the actor/comedian is expected to play a coach at the school. The script for Fist Fight was penned by relative newcomers Evan Susser and Van Robichaux and owuld be the pair’s first feature-film project after working on several comedic short films.
If the reports prove true, Fist Fight will be Morgan’s third movie pairing with Ice Cube after collaborating on the 2008 comedy First Sunday and the 2005 comedy Are We There Yet?
There’s currently no word on when cameras will begin rolling for Fist Fight or when the film is expected to arrive in theaters.
