In the new preview of Jessica Jones released by Marvel Entertainment and Netflix, Krysten Ritter’s title character finds herself in need of a little music and a stiff drink in the aftermath of a brutal bar fight. That she chooses Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” as her drinking music — and steps over the battered bodies of several bar patrons to get to the aforementioned drink — serves as a not-too-subtle reminder that she’s not your typical superhero.
Premiering next month on the streaming service, Jessica Jones casts Ritter as a former superhero whose career is cut short by tragedy. Caught in a downward spiral and fighting inner demons that are more dangerous than most supervillains, she becomes a detective specializing in cases that involve people who themselves have superhuman abilities.
Jessica Jones is the second of four live-action Netflix series set in Marvel’s cinematic universe that will culminate in a limited series that brings all four shows together in a crossover event. The four-part (or five-part, including the crossover) experiment kicked off with Daredevil back in April, and continues with Jessica Jones next month, then to be followed by Luke Cage and Iron Fist next year, before all four title characters come together in The Defenders.
Along with Ritter, the cast of Jessica Jones includes Doctor Who alum David Tennant as Kilgrave, Halo: Nightfall actor Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Red Dog actress Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, as well as Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Eka Darville (Power Rangers R.P.M.), and Erin Moriarty (The Kings of Summer).
Jessica Jones will premiere November 20, 2015, on Netflix at 12:01 am PT.
