Minecraft: Story Mode gets a “World Premiere” Hollywood event

'Minecraft: Story Mode' Episode 1 - 'The Order of the Stone' Trailer
Do you like watching other people play video games? Do you like Minecraft? Do you want to be able to tell people that you’ve attended a Hollywood premiere? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, then Telltale Games and Mojang have the event for you: the upcoming Minecraft: Story Mode will premiere in Hollywood ahead of the game’s release, and you can attend to participate in the “World’s Largest Let’s Play” event.

On October 12 at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, Minecraft: Story Mode will be given its “Redstone Carpet World Premiere,” an all-ages event that Telltale and Mojang are billing as the “World’s Largest Let’s Play.” Choices and actions in the game will be decided by the cheering crowd, so here’s hoping that in-person viewers are a little more democratic in their discussion than those on YouTube.

Telltale highlights the game’s voice cast in the announcement, as well, and it includes a solid mix of both traditional video game voice talent and film actors. Brian Posehn (Nerd Poker), Paul Reuben (Pee-wee’s Playhouse), Dave Fennoy (Telltale’s The Walking Dead), John Hodgman (The “PC” from those Apple commercials), and Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us) join Patton Oswalt and Catherine Taber in a quest that begins at “EnderCon” as the world starts tearing itself apart. While the Minecraft universe is still a weird choice for a story-focused adventure, the first episode’s trailer does give me confidence in the final product.

If you want to participate in Minecraft: Story Mode‘s premiere event, Telltale Games will be giving tickets away at no cost. As such, availability is extremely limited. Minecraft: Story Mode launches digitally on October 13 and at retail on October 27 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, and Mac. Wii U and mobile versions are also in development.

Catly does not use generative AI or contain NFTs, devs say
A cat sleeps in Catly.

After stirring up controversy at The Game Awards, Catly developer SuperAuthenti Co. has clarified that its game does not use generative AI or blockchain technology, Digital Trends confirms.

Catly is an upcoming open-world adventure game that got a teaser trailer at this year's Game Awards. As soon as it aired, social media users began speculating about whether the "photorealistic" trailer used generative AI. When Digital Trends first asked a PR representative for SuperAuthenti if the trailer or project, which is described as being "technologically innovative" and featuring unique cats for every user, uses AI, we were initially told that the studio would not be answering further questions until 2025.

If you didn’t become a VR gamer in 2024, you probably never will
A Meta render gives you an idea of what you'll experience in VR with a Quest 3S.

Like many humiliated tech writers, I have been guilty of writing those seven little words that can haunt you for the rest of your career: “This was the year VR took off.”

Yes, a lot of us wide-eyed armchair analysts have fallen victim to this optimism trap over VR’s long lifespan. Half-Life: Alyx finally brings a complete gaming experience to a headset? VR has taken off. PlayStation introduces its own plug-and-play device? We’re off to the races. Meta invests heavily in games and releases a wireless device that makes them easy to play? It’s all happening! Of course, all of those lofty predictions tend to look like deflated balloons six months later.
