Rocket League was one of this year’s most unexpected hits. Developer Psyonix has kept the buzz alive with a steady stream of updates ever since its launch in July. The newest of these is an infusion of free, Halloween-themed content that will be dropping on Oct. 18. The free DLC includes six new items that can drop after matches and be used to customize players’ cars:

  • “Calavera” Antenna
  • “Candy Corn” Rocket Trail
  • “Carriage” Wheels
  • “Fuzzy Brute” Antenna
  • “Fuzzy Vampire” Antenna
  • “Pumpkin” Topper

These items will be available for a limited time only. If you don’t grab them by Nov. 2, you will have to wait until Halloween season 2016 for another shot.

There is also another paid piece of DLC coming out later this month. “Revenge of the Battle-Cars” arrives on Oct. 13 with two classic cars, a selection of customization options, and  five new trophies to win. It will be available for $4, but note that it is not necessary in order to enjoy the Halloween content.

All content will be available on both of the game’s platforms: PlayStation 4 and PC. One of the most recent patches improved the functionality and stability of cross-platform play. It also smoothed out the matchmaking process for ranked play, positioning the game in the growing field of eSports. Furthermore, although only launched initially on two platforms, the developer has announced its intention to expand the small team and port the game over onto other platforms, based on its immense success so far. Although Psyonix has not yet specified what those platforms might be, Xbox One seems likely to top the list.

Rocket League is a fast-paced, team-based game of soccer by way of demolition derby. Teams compete to drive an enormous soccer ball into the opposing team’s goal by pushing it around in rocket-powered cars. Cars can be customized with parts won through playing. It came out in summer 2015 as a sequel to Psyonix’s much wordier Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars.

Rocket League's recent move to a free-to-play model has been fairly smooth, mainly because the in-game economy was established before Epic and Psyonix pulled the trigger. At the heart of the economy is Rocket League's in-game currency, simply called "credits." You can use credits to purchase cosmetic items like a player banner or a rocket trail, as well as blueprints for unlocking other items. Here, we're going to show you how to get credits in Rocket League, both from the in-game store and for free using external trading platforms.

The best Rocket League cars
rocket league

Ever since it launched as a free PlayStation Plus title, Rocket League has enjoyed a large and healthy population of players. With a concept as simple as "soccer ... but with rocket-powered cars," it has all the elements that make it fun for casual players to pick up and play for an hour, plus enough depth and potential for strategy to launch a booming e-sports scene. Now that it has gone completely free to play on the Epic Game store, there's no telling how high this game can soar.

Even before it became free to play, Rocket League was jam-packed with cosmetic items for players to earn as they played. You could deck out your car's wheels and equip different flags, paint jobs, wheels, exhaust trails, and more. The most substantial thing you can pick for yourself will obviously be the car itself. Plenty of new models have been added over the game's life, including many pulled from films like Ghostbuster's Ecto -- 1 and the Batmobile, but those might not be the smartest picks. Psyonix has made it a point to try and make all cars more or less equal, yet there are a few that do have a slight edge over the others. If you want to gain every advantage you can on the field, these are the best cars in Rocket League.

Rocket Lab has identified failure issue and will resume launches this month
Rocket Lab's Electron rocket

New Zealand private launch company Rocket Lab announced it has discovered the cause of a failed launch last month, and that it will resume launches this month.

On July 5, 2020, Rocket Lab launched an Electron rocket from New Zealand’s Mahia Peninsula, carrying seven satellites from three different companies. The lift-off went well, with no issues, but several minutes after this an error occurred and the rocket failed to reach orbit. The upper stage of the rocket and the payloads crashed back to Earth and were lost.
