Far Cry Primal takes the series to the Stone Age next February

Far Cry Primal Trailer – Official Reveal
Forget everything you know about Far Cry — the awesome guns, the drive-by shootings, the radio towers, and even the wing suit — because Ubisoft’s open-world shooter is going back to its roots, or rather, humanity’s roots, for its latest installment. Even better: it arrives sooner than you’d think.

Set in the Stone Age, Far Cry Primal places you in the role of a hunter named Takkar: a “sole survivor of an ambush” that has him struggling to survive with the unforgiving wilderness and, naturally, hostile humans.

Like past games in the series, Far Cry Primal puts considerable focus on stealth, but the exact form this takes appears to have changed considerably. The official reveal trailer shows a tribe of hunters carefully approaching a mammoth, spears drawn, before quickly ambushing the beast with a barrage of stabs and arrows. The “hit the fan” essence of Far Cry looks like it’s still alive and well, however, as a sabretooth tiger quickly turns the hunt into a vicious all-out melee.

Far Cry Primal will also utilize the crafting system from Far Cry 3 and 4, and it may be even more important in a world devoid of firearms. Animal bones are now a crafting resource, used for making weapons as well as other, unspecified “tools,” and you’ll have to make use of man’s most precious tool — fire — “when assaulting beasts or infiltrating enemy outposts.” Most likely, this means you can’t just shoot an arrow at a red barrel this time. However, art director Mickael Labat stresses that there will still be plenty of variety in weapon types, and that man already “knew how to use stone in 150 different ways” by the time of the Stone Age.

After the release of Far Cry 4, questions were raised about potential franchise fatigue, considering that the sequel was extremely similar, both in gameplay and narrative structure, to its predecessor. While details are understandably scarce, it looks like Primal will ease those worries considerably.

The kicker? It’s only a few months away. Far Cry Primal hits Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on February 23, with a PC release the following month.

Far Cry 6 Supremo Backpack Guide: All backpack abilities and where to find them
Two Far Cry 6 players shoot in co-op.

You can play stealthy, guns blazing, or some combination of the two in Far Cry 6. The open-world nature of the game lets you tackle objectives as you see fit, so long as it involves killing everyone in your path, that is. To facilitate this mass carnage, all in the name of freeing Yara from the clutches of an evil dictator mind you, you will be given many tools of destruction and mayhem. Guns will be your standard, faithful method for dishing out justice, but they're far from your only option. A new tool that Far Cry 6's protagonist has access to almost right away is the Supremo Backpack, which can instantly turn the tides of a firefight in your favor.

Supremo Backpacks come in many different forms, seven to be exact, and each has its own ability. Some are more offensive-focused, while others have more support or situational uses, but all are very powerful and worth collecting. Each ability has a meter that must be charged to use it, either by waiting or filling it up faster by getting kills with your traditional weaponry. You will be given one automatically, but the rest have to be unlocked and purchased. The only exception is the final Supremo, which you need to go out of your way to find. If you want to be fully equipped to face the Yaran military forces, follow our guide here on all the Supremo Backpack abilities and how to get them in Far Cry 6.

Far Cry 6: All rooster locations
Dani holding up a rooster.

Open-world games are known for their side activities. Even the Far Cry games have dabbled in some traditional diversions, such as treasure hunts, races, hunting, and fishing, to name a few. Far Cry 6 has many of these as well, but one extra mode stands out as the most unique for not only this series, but in gaming as a whole. The controversial "sport" of cockfighting makes an appearance as an activity you can participate in to earn some extra money once you reach Montero Farm in Madrugada.

You're not just a spectator betting on a random outcome in Far Cry 6's cockfighting mini-game, however. Instead, the game puts you in control of your rooster of choice in a surprisingly fun and competent little fighting-game-style battle. Before you can enter the ring, though, you will need a champion to fight on your behalf. Special roosters are waiting all around Yara for you to find and test out in the ring. There are a total of 13 to find, with six more you can get as part of Ubisoft rewards, with their own unique names. We've scouted out all the best feathery fighters in Far Cry 6. Here are all the rooster locations to test out in the ring and earn yourself the Recrooster trophy and achievement.
