Wearables are finding their way to more and more wrists and ankles, and the trend is growing all the time — so it’s no surprise that hardware makers want to get in on the action as soon as possible. One firm that isn’t jumping on the bandwagon for the foreseeable future is OnePlus, which recently abandoned plans to launch a wearable device at the last minute.

Speaking to TechRadar, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei said his company was interested in launching a fitness tracker — and a Bluetooth speaker — but pulled the plug a month before the devices were about to hit the market. Understandably, the engineers working on the projects weren’t best pleased that all their hard work counted for nothing.

As Pei explained to TechRadar: “We asked ourselves, what is the goal? We decided we needed to focus on smartphones, to ensure we’re launching quality products and leave the wearables and speakers to the people who know what they’re doing.”

So make of that what you will — Pei says the company is going to continue to focus on its flagship phone and the more stylish X range, with no plans to add more handsets at different price points at this stage. Customer service and the OxygenOS software developed by the firm are also going to be prioritized in the years ahead, according to Pei.

It makes sense for OnePlus to focus its efforts behind a couple of major products rather than spread itself too thinly — it doesn’t have the huge resources of a Samsung or an LG after all — but it would’ve been interesting to see what the innovative company would have done with the wearable fitness tracker format. Let’s hope it might revisit the idea again at some point in the not-too-distant future.

oneplus nord ce 2 5g release date news camera teaser

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G will get its official unveiling on February 17, and the company has circulated a teaser showing the rear camera module to build anticipation, plus it has revealed a few key facts from the spec sheet. The Nord CE 2 5G is the sequel to the Nord CE, released in June 2021, which provided great mid-range device value.

What about the Nord CE 2 5G? The teaser image shows a very different camera module to the first Nord CE. This time it’s a rectangular shape and houses two cameras and two smaller apertures, potentially for another camera and a flash, or a flash and an additional sensor for focusing. The Nord CE had three cameras -- a 64-megapixel main, an 8MP wide-angle, and a 2MP monochrome camera.

OnePlus 10 Pro could still run OxygenOS 12 outside of China
OnePlus 10 Pro official image showcasing rear camera module.

Soon after confirming its integration with Oppo in late 2021, OnePlus announced that its 2022 flagship phone would be the first to run a new unified OS. For those who aren't aware, the company is merging OxygenOS with Oppo's ColorOS. The OnePlus 10 Pro in China already runs ColorOS 12.1. However, it looks like the global variant of the device will still feature the latest version of the beloved OxygenOS.

According to a report from 91Mobiles, tipster Yogesh Brar, the launch of the unified OS has been delayed. As a result, the OnePlus 10 Pro could run OxygenOS 12 outside of China. While this might come as good news for OnePlus fans, it also means that the launch of the upcoming OS has been delayed, so the phone won't get a unified OS until a future update at an unspecified date.
