Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron are already attached to the upcoming Baywatch movie, and now it appears that the studio is turning its attention to the potential leading ladies for its comedic adaptation of the ’90s lifeguard drama series.
A new, unconfirmed casting report suggests that Paramount Pictures is considering several notable actresses to take on roles in the film, which is likely to feature several female leads joining Johnson and Efron.
According to Deadline, the list of rumored contenders for Baywatch roles includes Pretty Little Liars and Spring Breakers actress Ashley Benson (pictured), True Detective actress Alexandra Daddario (who recently co-starred with Johnson in the disaster movie San Andreas), The Vampire Diaries and The Final Girls actress Nina Dobrev, Teen Wolf and Unfriended actress Shelley Hennig, The Duff and Ouija actress Bianca Santos, X-Men: Apocalypse actress Alexandra Shipp (set to play the mutant Storm in the upcoming film), and Dog With A Blog actress Denyse Tontz.
The report indicates that there’s some uncertainty regarding the actual number of roles the studio is looking to fill with this pool of actresses, so several of the aforementioned actresses could end up in featured roles. With production expected to move into high gear early next year, though, the cast will likely be finalized in the near future.
Set to be directed by Horrible Bosses filmmaker Seth Gordon, the Baywatch movie is expected to be a comedic take on the series in the same way the recent 21 Jump Street movie sampled from the popular TV show that inspired it.
The film is said to follow a former Olympian who clashes with a team of lifeguards, and original Baywatch stars Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff are expected to have cameo roles.
There’s no specific release date for the Baywatch movie at this point.
