Verizon Wireless is giving away Star Wars Google Cardboard VR viewers for free today

Interested in finding out about the world of virtual reality? Forget plunking down $100 plus on a headset, because you can grab Google’s Cardboard VR viewer for free right now from a Verizon Wireless store as part of a #WhyNotWednesday promotion. And if you happen to be a Star Wars fan, the deal is even sweeter.

There is one caveat however … you must be a current customer of Verizon Wireless. It’s a tough stipulation, but one that we understand.

There are four designs to choose from: BB-8, R2D2, Kylo Ren, and a Stormtrooper. Everything else about them is the same. These special edition viewers work just like the basic Google Cardboard viewers that usually cost between $15 and $30.

What’s even cooler is that Google Cardboard works with both Android phones and iPhones. You should be able to insert any phone up to about 6 inches in size. You will then need to install the Cardboard app, which is available in both Google Play and the App Store.

From there, it’s just a matter of downloading Cardboard-compatible apps from the respective app stores. You can even watch virtual reality videos on YouTube or take a virtual trip to anywhere using Google Street View.

The only downside to Google Cardboard is that there isn’t a strap, so you’ll have to hold it up to your face.

If you’re uncertain of where the Verizon Stores in your area are, you can hit up Verizon’s official page and enter your zip code. The carrier did say that this offer is valid only until the supply runs out, so you’re better off heading to a store now rather than later.

You can grab the Android version of the Cardboard app here and the iOS version here.

The Galaxy A56 may get one of the S24 Ultra’s top features
A person using the Samsung Galaxy A55.

Samsung may be ready to change one of the long-standing negatives about its otherwise desirable Galaxy A5x series phones — the charging speed. For the Galaxy A55’s replacement, currently expected to be called the Galaxy A56, Samsung may introduce 45-watt charging speeds, a big increase over the current 25W charging, according to a report originating in China.

The source is an official-looking certificate from the Chinese government’s Quality Certification Centre (CQC) which is responsible for ensuring devices sold in China meet the required standards. The phone is listed as the SM-A5660, and seeing as the Galaxy A55’s model number is the SM-A556, it’s not much of a stretch to assume we’re looking at details of the unreleased Galaxy A56. Apparently, the phone’s maximum 10V/4.5A system equates to a 45W charging speed.

I used a Wear OS smartwatch for the first time, and I love it
Someone wearing an Apple Watch Ultra and Pixel Watch 3 on different wrists.

Ever since the original Apple Watch, smartwatches as a whole have really taken off. Though Apple largely dominates the market, there are still plenty of non-Apple smartwatches to choose from.

I’ve been solely an Apple Watch user for the past decade, but I’ve been trying out a Google Pixel Watch 3 for the past couple of weeks. And, honestly, I kind of love it.
