Kiefer Sutherland goes gunslinger in the first trailer for Forsaken

For those who miss watching 24 star Kiefer Sutherland shooting first and asking questions later, the trailer for his new western

Forsaken could be just the fix you’re craving.

Set to hit theaters next month, the film casts Sutherland as an infamous quick-draw gunfighter who tries to put his past behind him and reunite with his preacher father — a role played by Kiefer’s real-life dad, Donald Sutherland. As one might expect, his efforts are hampered when a group of criminals force him to once again make use of his particular set of skills.

Along with the two Sutherlands in lead roles — which should actually be a pretty big draw on its own — the film also stars Demi Moore (GhostA Few Good Men) and Brian Cox (The Bourne IdentityBraveheart). For his part, Cox appears to be playing the sort of villain role that actors can have a lot of fun with, so there could be some entertaining moments there as well.

Fans of 24 will certainly want to take note of director Jon Cassar behind the camera for Forsaken, as Cassar served as an executive producer on 24 and the subsequent 24: Live Another Day miniseries, and directed more than 60 episodes of both series. The script for the film was penned by Crime Spree and The Confession screenwriter Brad Mirman.

The official synopsis of the film reads as follows:

In 1872, John Henry Clayton (Kiefer Sutherland) retires as a gunfighter and returns to his hometown of Fowler, Wyoming in hope of repairing his relationship with his estranged father, Reverend Clayton (Donald Sutherland). However, he soon learns that the town is in turmoil, as the railroad will be coming through the area and a criminal gang is terrorizing ranchers who refuse to sell their land. John Henry is the only one who can stop them, but his father does not want his son to return to a life of violence.

Forsaken will get a limited release in theaters beginning February 19, and will likely head to Video On Demand after its theatrical run.

Are you ready to get Glicked this weekend? No, I didn't call you a dirty name, that's the actual moniker being used for the simultaneous release of Wicked and Gladiator II. I'm not going to see either this weekend as both are expected to make tons of cash and draw in a lot of crowds in theaters over the next few days.
