Here's your first image from Shane Black's Predator sequel

It’s been a while now since we had an update on the next installment of the Predator franchise, which was being co-written by Iron Man 3 and Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black and Fred Dekker (The Monster Squad). That news drought has ended, though, with the unexpected reveal of the first promotional image for the film.

The image was posted on the official Facebook page for the Predator franchise, and features the tagline “You’ll never see him coming” over an image of the Predator alien. The image also suggests that the film will be titled The Predator, but that has yet to be confirmed by the studio.

Fans of the franchise will likely recall that the caption accompanying the image, “Here we go again, bro,” is a reference to a line from the original, 1987 film. In the film, actor Bill Duke’s character reminisces about past missions with the corpse of a fellow soldier played by Jesse Ventura, telling the lifeless body, “Here we are again, bro.”

Plot details for The Predator remain a mystery, but the film was described as an “inventive sequel” by its creative team, so it doesn’t seem as if it’s being envisioned as a full-on reboot.

The original Predator cast Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite team of soldiers tasked with rescuing American hostages held by  guerilla forces in a remote jungle region of Central America. Their mission is complicated by the arrival of a powerful alien who begins hunting Schwarzenegger’s team.

Along with Schwarzenegger, the film’s cast included tough-guy actors Ventura and Carl Weathers, as well as Black himself in the role of a bespectacled soldier named Hawkins.

The success of the film spawned a 1990 sequel starring Danny Glover that brought a Predator alien to Los Angeles, as well as the 2010 spinoff movie Predators, which was set on an alien planet and starred Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, and Laurence Fishburne. The race of Predator aliens also appeared in several crossover films with the Alien franchise, beginning with 2004’s Alien vs. Predator and then again in 2007’s Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

There’s no release date set for The Predator at this point.
