Here’s what Daredevil’s intro would look like as an old-school video game

At this point, many fans of Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix have already binged their way through all 13 episodes of the recently released second season, and are desperately craving another fix of the gritty superhero drama. Fortunately, the Internet has a way of providing when it comes to these kind of things … in its own, special way, of course.

For anyone who has ever wondered what the opening sequence from Daredevil would look like as an old-school video game, complete with a MIDI version of the musical theme, there’s a video for that.

The 85-second video, entitled Daredevil Netflix Pixel Intro (Demolidor), is the creation of Portuguese-language graphic design and animation team “doisDI,” with Luiz Carlos Teixeira credited with the art and animation for the project. Fans of classic, 16-bit video games will likely feel a bit of nostalgia while watching the video, as it channels the visual — and audio — vibe of console adventures from days gone by (but not too far gone by), when every superhero movie or television project had a tie-in game.

Composer Nick Bellardini created the MIDI version of the Daredevil theme, and his YouTube page contains an impressive archive of other MIDI-fied versions of television and movie themes.

Fans of Jessica Jones, the second Marvel series on Netflix, can also take solace in the fact that a post-credits teaser at the end of the video indicates that Jessica Jones is next on the list for the doisDI design and animation team.

Oh, and apparently Demolidor is the Portugese title for Daredevil, in case you were wondering about that, too.

All 13 episodes of the second season of Daredevil, starring Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, and Jon Bernthal, are available to watch now on Netflix.

Surfaced patent shows what an Xbox streaming console would’ve looked like

There have been a few Xbox devices that have never come to fruition, one of which was Keystone, a prototype for an affordable game streaming device you could hook up to your TV or monitor. Thanks to a surfaced patent, we've gotten an even closer look at what it would've potentially looked like.

The patent, first spotted by Windows Central, gives us a more complete view of the device. We've previously seen the Keystone in the flesh. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer is known for hiding teases and interesting collectibles on the shelf in his office. In a 2022 X (formerly Twitter) post congratulating Bethesda on Fallout's 25th anniversary, you can see a small white device on the top shelf that's actually a Keystone prototype. Xbox told Digital Trends that it was a version of the device made before it decided to "refocus our efforts on a new approach.”

At the start of June, I wrote about some of the announcements I'd like to see the video game industry make over the course of the month's showcases. Now, we're on the other end of reveal-filled events from Summer Game Fest, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and Ubisoft, and looking back, I had a surprisingly high hit rate. Some leaks turned out to be true, while one pipe dream prediction did come to fruition. Now that the biggest video game showcases of the summer are over, I'm practicing a bit of humility by looking back at what I predicted to see just how right or wrong I was. While I was spot on about three picks, I made two big whiffs.
The re-emergence of Metroid Prime 4: Correct

I had hoped that this summer would finally be the one where we saw Metroid Prime 4 in action; thankfully, that ended up happening. To conclude the latest Nintendo Direct, Retro Studios gave us our first glimpse of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The short but incredibly dense reveal trailer lived up to my expectations. It not only confirmed the title and release window but gave a look at gameplay as well. This first look indicates that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be one of the most graphically impressive Nintendo Switch games to date.

Video games are changing, and Summer Game Fest just teased what’s next

When Geoff Keighley takes the stage at an event like The Game Awards, he doesn’t tend to talk about current events. That’s been a point of frustration for some people over the years who have voiced criticism over how the gaming figurehead uses (or misuses) his platform. As Keighley walked on the stage at this year’s Summer Game Fest, expectations that he’d acknowledge the current layoff crisis in the video game industry were low. Then Keighley delivered the show’s biggest surprise in its first minute.

“This has been a tumultuous and difficult year with company layoffs and studio closures which have disappointed all of us. But there’s also something else happening,” Keighley said to open the show before flipping to a slide showing the top 10 bestselling new games on Steam so far in 2024. The list wasn’t filled with blockbusters; it was topped by surprise success stories like Palworld, Balatro, and Manor Lords.
