Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson seems to be a pretty motivational guy, not least because he’s twice the size of a normal human being, and most of us would do exactly what he said, no questions asked. It’s very fitting then, that The Rock’s new mobile app is described as a ‘motivational alarm clock,’ because if anyone can make turn that de-motivational tool into something more, it’s him. It’s called The Rock Clock, and it may be one of the best app concepts we’ve seen in a while.

How does it work? Download it and the first thing to be done is set a goal. It could be anything, like eat a cupcake before 10:30, or give the cat more fuss. The Rock thinks you should be doing a little more, and the app suggests things like gaining five pounds of muscle, earning a promotion, or amusingly setting the goal of coming up with the ‘best goal ever.’

With your new life goal in mind, you set a completion date for sometime between now and 2025, and then put in a daily alarm clock time. This is where The Rock’s app starts to get really fun. First, you set a time to ‘wake my ass up at,’ and then choose a custom Rock alarm tone. The Classic alarm has The Rock say, ‘beep, beep, beep … I could do this all day … beep, beep, beep.’ but we’d probably pick the utterly fantastic Battle Cat, which you’ll have to hear and appreciate in the app itself.

Except that’s not living life like The Rock. That cupcake’s not going to eat itself, so if you’re looking to the big man for real, inspirational motivation, you need to activate Rock Time. It’s simple enough. Flip the switch, and your alarm will go off at the same time as The Rock’s alarm clock. The Rock is an early bird, and the first time we switched on Rock Time saw our alarm set for 4:45am. Oh, and there’s no snooze option. Finally, The Rock will send a daily video message each morning, pushing you on to reach whatever goal you set.

Questioning why The Rock is the ideal person to make a motivational alarm clock app? Take a look at his Instagram page to see his charitable work and read the often inspirational notes, or listen to his advice about dealing with depression in various interviews, for proof he’s worth listening to. The Rock Clock app is available for free on iOS and Android.

I have the new Mocha Mousse color for the Motorola Razr Plus, and it’s stunning
The Mocha Mousse Motorola Razr Plus in someone's pocket.

The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 stands tall as one of the year's best folding phones. It's highly performant and has good cameras, solid software, and a striking design. That last point was one of my favorite aspects of the phone when I reviewed it this summer, and just in time for the new year, Motorola found a way to ensure the Razr Plus continues to be a design leader heading into 2025.

Earlier this month, Motorola announced its new Mocha Mousse color for the Razr Plus. I thought the renders looked good, but as with any smartphone color, it's difficult to get the full experience until it's in your hands.

An Apple insider says a new iPad is coming in spring 2025. Here’s what we know
Someone holding the iPad (2022) with the display turned on.

Apple did not release any new iPads in 2023. However, this year marked a significant change with the introduction of all-new versions of the iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. Notably absent from this list is the standard iPad, which hasn't been updated in nearly three years. This is expected to change in the coming months. According to MacRumors, Apple plans to release an updated iPad alongside the iPhone SE 4 in spring 2025.

While limited information about the upcoming iPad is available, several details have emerged in recent months. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new tablet is expected to support Apple Intelligence, just like all iPads released in 2024 do. This support suggests that the 11th-generation iPad will likely have a newer A-series chip and at least 8GB of RAM.

MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400 is going to make 2025 phones faster and more efficient
MediaTek Dimensity 8400 SoC visualized on a phone.

MediaTek has just introduced its latest smartphone silicon, and this one promises some big changes for midrange smartphones. The latest offering from the Taiwanese company is the Dimensity 8400 chip, and it will take on Qualcomm’s excellent Snapdragon 7 series Gen 3 processors.

The new MediaTek chipset, however, enters the fray with more firepower than we have ever seen in this segment. That’s because the Dimensity 8400 goes all-in on big cores and ditches efficiency cores, just like its flagship sibling, the Dimensity 9400.
