Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is about to body slam his way onto YouTube, and there isn’t a damn thing those candy-ass web stars can do about it.
In his efforts to run amok on each and every social network, Johnson now has his sights set on Google’s video platform. The all-round superstar is launching a YouTube channel in conjunction with digital production company Studio71. Johnson made the announcement on his current social network of choice, Instagram.
Can you smell what The Rock is vlogging? OK, enough with the wrestling references, those days are (almost) behind our favorite beefcake. Come on people, he’s a serious actor now, not to mention Hollywood’s go-to action hero when a franchise needs resurrecting. Then again, if that’s truly the case, why the sudden need for YouTube?
The Instagram vid, which has already racked up over 150,000 likes from Johnson’s 51.3 million followers, doesn’t give much away. Therefore, we need to make our own assumptions. How about the fact that YouTube now has over a billion followers, and its top creators earn tens of millions of dollars annually. Additionally, The Rock has never been averse to the platform, often popping up in vids from famous YouTube influencers, including Studio71’s very-own Lilly Singh.
In fact, Johnson’s YouTube channel — which goes under the much-too-formal guise of “Seven Bucks Digital Studios” — will see him collaborate with YouTube stars, and post his own videos. Therefore, all those web influencers have nothing to fear, The Rock comes in peace. Rest assured, if it did come down to a fight, he’d eat them and their puny channels for breakfast.
The new venture is described by Studio71 as a “natural extension of Johnson’s expertise and passion for social media platforms and digital content creation,” Mashable reports. Meaning, it could eventually be home to plenty of exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from his Hollywood shoots, in the vein of his Instagram profile. The latter has seen him share tons of photos and videos from the set of Baywatch, with Zac Efron and the rest of the insanely attractive cast in tow.
You can expect Seven Bucks Digital Studios to hit YouTube this summer. In the meantime, you can get your daily fix of The Rock via his new alarm clock app.
