After offering its customers the ability to pay for Amazon Prime on a monthly basis, Sprint is now giving them the chance to get the service for free.
The only stipulation is that you need to be a data hog, which isn’t all that difficult if you like to stream content regularly. Starting Friday, if you sign up for the Better Choice XXL plan, Sprint will throw in 12 months of Amazon Prime for free. You get 40GB for $100 per month with the Better Choice XXL plan, which is a ton of data.
The Better Choice plans, not to be confused with T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plans, were introduced in February as an easy way for customers to choose the desired amount of data needed to share with the entire family. The XXL plan happens to be the largest data bucket option. Coincidentally, Verizon also has an XXL plan, but Sprint is happy to point out that you only get 18GB for the same $100 per month.
With the Better Choice XXL plan, and all other Better Choice plans, you get unlimited data at 2G speeds after you hit your allotment. However, you can also purchase additional high speed LTE data for $15 per GB.
On top of the data charge, you still need to pay the $20 monthly access fee for each phone that will share the data. That comes with unlimited talk and text, as well as unlimited international texting from the U.S. to more than 180 countries, and the ability to use your phone as a mobile hot spot.
Sprint seems to have a working relationship with Amazon. In late March, the carrier announced that customers can add Amazon Prime to their Sprint bill for $11 per month. At $132 per year, it’s $33 more than paying Amazon the regular annual price, but it gives customers the flexibility to purchase the service when they want.
Whether you sign up for the monthly plan or get 12 months free with the XXL plan, you’re getting the same Amazon Prime service that includes Prime Video and Prime Music. With Prime Video, you’ll be able to stream thousands of movies and TV shows, including Amazon original programming. Prime Music has more than 1 million songs in its catalog that can be streamed whenever you want. You even get the Kindle Lending Library, as well as unlimited photo storage in Amazon Cloud. And let’s not forget two-day free shipping on most products and early access to Lightning Deals.
It’s important to note that all the Amazon Prime music and video content can not only be streamed via your smartphone or tablet, it can be streamed to computers, set-top boxes, and smart TVs as well.
The one-year Amazon Prime offer is good for new customers, as well as current Sprint customers making the switch to the Better Choice XXL plan. Just visit www.sprint.com/plans, call 1-(800)-SPRINT1 or go to the nearest Sprint store to sign up for Sprint Better Choice XXL. After doing so, you’ll receive a text message with an activation link to complete your Amazon Prime registration.
