With Robert Downey Jr. busy doing Avengers films seemingly for the rest of his natural life, there has been speculation that the Sherlock Holmes franchise would fall by the wayside — but it seems that game is still very much afoot.

A little less than a month after Robert Downey Jr. suggested that Sherlock Holmes 3 could happen “this year,” producer Joel Silver took it one step further and revealed that it could very well film this fall. Here’s what he told Collider on Thursday:

“It looks like it could happen this fall. Downey said he wants to do it. He’s gotta launch into another Avengers movie, right after the New Year, so we’re trying to get it done. We have a script that we like. Jude [Law] is available and Downey is available, and we’re hoping we can get it done. If it works, great. If not, we’ll do it another time. But, it looks like it could happen now.”

It looks like there’s a possibility they could squeeze this sucker in during the small window when Downey Jr. isn’t busy Iron Man-ing. As if that weren’t enough to excite fans of the franchise, Silver also suggested that several sequels could be in the offing:

“I hope [it’s not the last one]. I don’t think so. How many Bond films have they made? As long as there’s a character, we can work with it. It’s not an end story. We can keep going, as long as people want to do it. It’s [the actor’s] call. They have to say, ‘Okay, I’m ready to go.’ I read about them making another Bad Boys. If they want to do it, then you try to get it done.”

In actuality, there have been far fewer Bonds than there have been Sherlocks and Silver is spot on in suggesting that the franchise could continue well into the future. Interestingly enough, Downey Jr. probably isn’t even the most popular Holmes of his era, as Benedict Cumberbatch’s cold, calculating portrayal of the iconic detective has been celebrated as among the best of all time.

Either way, we’d love to see him don the deerstalker cap for a third installment of this series. Stay tuned and we’ll update you as more information becomes available.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera director talks explosive sequel, teases third movie: ‘We’re ready to go’
Gerard Butler as 'Big Nick' O'Brien fixes his tie in Den of Thieves 2.

In Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, there is a scene where Big Nick O'Brien (Gerard Butler) asks Donnie Wilson (O'Shea Jackson Jr.) why he continues to risk it all to pull off these seemingly impossible heists. "It'll never be enough," Donnie tells Nick. "Because it's not about the money. It's about the challenge."

Seven years have passed between 2018's Den of Thieves and its 2025 sequel. Between injuries to the actors, COVID-19, and the war in Ukraine, Den of Thieves 2 almost never happened. Yet writer and director Christian Gudegast was determined to shoot a sequel. Like Donnie, Gudegast embraces the challenge, knowing he has more stories to tell within the Den of Thieves universe.

Wicked star Cynthia Erivo wants to play X-Men hero Storm
Cynthia Erivo wears glasses in Wicked.

Cynthia Erivo may still be experiencing a warm round of applause for her performance as Elphaba in 2024's Wicked, but that doesn't mean she doesn't already have her sights set on other, future roles. On the contrary, the actress revealed during a recent interview with the National Board of Review that she'd like to follow up her performance in Wicked by playing one of the most iconic female superheroes of all time.

"I really want to play Storm," Erivo revealed on the carpet for the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City. The actress went on to say that she believes the popular X-Men character hasn't yet been explored as deeply onscreen as she deserves to be. "I know it sounds frivolous, but I think we haven't uncovered how grand she is and all of that inner turmoil that she has," Erivo remarked. "So I think there's a world in which we could do something with that."
