If you have a PlayStation 4, chances are you probably already bought Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. In fact, you may have even beaten it already and started over on “crushing” difficulty or jumped into the game’s multiplayer mode. Sony has announced that about 2.7 million people have begun Nathan Drake’s final adventure, and for North America, it has achieved an even more impressive feat.

“Millions of fans around the world have already joined Nathan Drake on his final treasure hunt. In the first week alone, I’m happy to report that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End exceeded 2.7 million units in global sales,” says SCEA marketing manager Asad Quizilbash. “For the North American region, Uncharted 4 is the fastest-selling PS4 first party title to-date.”

Those numbers are enormous, and seeing as they were taken from sales as of May 16, they could be significantly higher by now. Last week, it was reported that UK sales for Uncharted 4 were up by 66% over those of its predecessor, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

This is quite an impressive feat, given the popularity of the series on PlayStation 3. Sony had announced the imposing launch day figure of 3.8 million units for Drake’s Deception back in 2011, but this number represented sales to retailers; the number for consumers was not nearly as gargantuan. In the United States, Uncharted 3 sold around 700,000 units in November 2011, even though it released on the first day of the month.

Uncharted 4 certainly deserves to sell 2.7 million copies in a week. In our review, we called it “a great victory lap that gives fans a chance to do something very rare in modern entertainment: give their beloved characters a proper sendoff.” Its combat is more refined, the grappling hook adds a nice wrinkle to the traversal, and the performances are some of the best the medium has ever offered.
