The official U.K. trailer (embedded above) checks in at 2 minutes, 34 seconds — substantially longer than the spots we’ve seen thus far — and Disney uses this extended look to provide us with a glimpse at the aftermath of Dory’s separation from her family.
We open up with a flashback, as two fish weave through a murky kelp forest. The pair happens upon a juvenile Dory, who introduces herself before they ask “where are your parents?” We then cut to her enlisting the help of an oceanic sunfish, but when asked, she again can’t recall where she left her kin.
Beyond that, we get a deeper look at life inside the Monterey Marine Life Institute and the debut of Idris Elba as Fluke the sea lion. While Marlin warns Nemo that he is a “natural predator” who could “pounce at any moment,” the only thing that seems to bother him at all is when an unsuspecting rival encroaches upon his rock. He barks, “OFF!, OFF!, OFF!,” but turns back into a gentle giant as soon as the trespasser retreats back into the water.
As was the case with the previous trailers, this spot is loads of fun, and we have no reason to doubt that the movie itself will be a similarly good time. Let’s be honest, if you can’t get a kick out of nearsighted whale sharks and ill-tempered octopi, you’re just not all that fun yourself.
For those based outside of the U.K., you can ignore the note at the end about the film hitting cinemas on July 29. Here in the United States, Finding Dory hits theaters June 17.
