Latest ‘Game of Thrones’ photos reveal a growing conflict, a target, and more

If you’re still reeling from the shocking developments of the latest Game of Thrones episode, you’re not alone, but the time to move forward has come. HBO has released six new photos from episode 6, Blood of My Blood, which will usher us into the second half of season 6. If you’re not up to date on the series, watch out: Spoilers lie ahead.

Not surprisingly, the new batch of photos show still more conflict ahead. They offer glimpses of confrontations to come, an important decision to be made, and a possible walk of shame. Through them, we see hints of what may develop in the upcoming episode for nine characters.

The images go nicely with HBO’s synopsis, which previews multiple plot lines:

An old foe comes back into the picture. Gilly (Hannah Murray) meets Sam’s (John Bradley) family. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a difficult choice. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) faces off against the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce).

Arya’s “difficult choice” clearly refers to deciding whether or not she’ll kill her target: Lady Jane (Essie Davis). The would-be victim is pictured looking very much alive but not overly happy. Arya, on the other hand, seems to be unusually happy — she doesn’t appear to be suffering a moral dilemma. In fact, as she stands in a grim-countenanced group, she is all smiles.

The face-off between Jamie and the High Sparrow is included in the images as well, and it is clear that we should expect a big clash in King’s Landing. Jaime, sporting a furrowed brow, sits atop a white horse (symbolism, anyone?) in one photo, while in another, the High Sparrow stands tall as Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) and Septa Unella (Hannah Waddingham) wait behind him. Signs point to a possible walk of shame, especially given that Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) seems so upset in another image.

Meanwhile, though not mentioned in the synopsis, Daario and Daenerys seem to be sitting pretty. Now at the head of a Dothraki army, they’re shown on horseback.

The twists and turns continue when Game of Thrones season 6, episode 6 airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

5 questions we have after House of the Dragon’s season 2 finale
Daemon Targaryen walks through a crowd of soldiers in House of the Dragon season 2.

The second season of HBO's House of the Dragon came to an end this past Sunday, and to say that its finale installment has gotten people talking would be an understatement. The Game of Thrones prequel's latest episode, titled The Queen Who Ever Was, has already been heavily criticized by both casual viewers and TV critics alike, many of whom have been quick to deem it a deeply frustrating, lackluster, and anticlimactic finale. Even those who enjoyed the episode don't seem particularly interested in downplaying its flaws.

That's because The Queen Who Ever Was doesn't wrap up many of its season's ongoing storylines. Instead, it pushes multiple important subplots right up to the point of no return, but never beyond it. As a result, while the episode isn't a very satisfying one, it has left us with plenty of questions about what we should expect when House of the Dragon returns.
1. When will Rhaenyra take King's Landing?

House of the Dragon forgot what made Game of Thrones’ season 2 so great
A custom image of Daenerys and Rhaenyra in Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

HBO's mega-hit House of the Dragon just wrapped its highly-anticipated second season with a whimper more than a bang. After two long years of waiting, the show came back on June 16 with a shortened season of just eight episodes, promising to deliver a thrilling and compelling story despite the reduced runtime. However, after a strong start, the show lost steam going into its finale, to the point where it's no overstatement to say it failed on almost every level.

The show's shortcomings become more glaring when compared to its predecessor, Game of Thrones. Although it lost much of its luster because of its now-infamous eighth season, Game of Thrones was at the peak of its quality during its acclaimed sophomore effort, which produced some of its most memorable scenes, dialogues, and episodes.

5 questions we have ahead of House of the Dragon’s season 2 finale
Two dragons roar behind Rhaenyra in House of the Dragon season 2.

It may seem like only yesterday that HBO's House of the Dragon returned from its two-year break, but the show's second season is almost over. Only one episode of the season remains and, for perhaps the first time in the series' story, it looks like Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) actually has the upper hand over her enemies. Viewers will have to wait to see how long Rhaenyra is actually able to hold onto her current advantage, but with her army in the Riverlands finally assembled and at least seven dragons and riders at her disposal, the Black Queen has never had a better opportunity than now to make an impact in the Dance of Dragons.

There are, of course, still several mysteries that must be resolved in House of the Dragon's forthcoming season 2 finale in order to determine the exact shape of Westeros' present political landscape. As book readers will already be able to tell you, the Game of Thrones prequel also has the chance to cap off its second season in truly shocking, explosive fashion, if it so chooses.
