Shopping for a car is a lot like dating. You’re going to be spending a lot of time with whatever or whomever you choose, so you want to make the right decision. There are plenty of car buying apps that will help you do just that, but Wyper is taking a completely different approach.
This new app borrows the most popular feature of the Tinder app to make finding the right car so much easier. It will present a bunch of new and used cars, each on its own page, that might interest you. And just like Tinder, you can swipe left if the car doesn’t strike your fancy, but if you feel like you might want to “hook up,” then swipe right.
Wyper also uses its own algorithm to figure out what you’re interested in, whether it be price, brand, or, ahem, body type. You can even get a little more specific with the app by swiping down to eliminate or show more convertibles or manual transmissions. Wyper also gathers swiping data from all users to rate each car with a social value to identify popular features and colors.
What makes Wyper unique isn’t the Tinder-like qualities, it’s the consumer-first approach. Aaron Rosenthal, the creator of the app, noted that apps like AutoTrader and Cars.com are more dealer-focused. In other words, dealers can pay extra to be listed first, something Wyper will not allow. At the same time, there are no plans to charge consumers for the ability to use the app. Rosenthal says that it plans on creating revenue from communications in that dealers might have to pay a fee for connecting with potential customers.
Another interesting feature is that when you choose to contact a dealer through the app about a particular car, the call will be routed through Wyper’s 800 number — so the dealer won’t have your contact information unless you want to share it. There’s nothing worse than getting a zillion phone calls from a dealer after making a simple inquiry.
Wyper is meant to find cars locally, but sometimes the perfect car might not be so close. That’s why it will allow you to expand your criteria into other states to find exactly what you’re looking for.
You can grab Wyper from either the App Store or Google Play. Give it a try today and let us know what you think about it in the comments.
