Two more Twitter executives make their exit from the company

Jack Dorsey can give out all the stock he wants, but apparently, that’s not enough to keep Twitter executives from leaving the nest. Yet another couple of high-ranking employees at the beleaguered social media company are reportedly spreading their wings and flying away — this time, it’s Jana Messerschmidt, the head of business development, and Nathan Hubbard, head of media and commerce.

It’s been a tumultuous year for Twitter’s leadership team, as well as the team in general. Since Dorsey reclaimed the reins of the company last October, the Silicon Valley-based company has seen rather significant turnover, both in terms of layoffs and in voluntary departures (namely from key stakeholders).

Still, Messerschmidt and Hubbard’s decisions constitute the most significant personnel news to emerge since four Twitter VPs left the company back in January.

Messerschmidt, whose six-year tenure at Twitter made her one of the few remaining executives who could recall the pre-IPO time period at the firm, has played a key role in developing Twitter’s partnerships with major names like IBM, Salesforce, and Google. And as for Hubbard, who was the CEO of Ticketmaster before he joined Dorsey’s team, sources say that the tech veteran is looking to start a company of his own.

In a series of tweets, Hubbard explained the thought process behind his departure, tweeting, “There are no words to express the gratitude I feel to the human beings I got to connect with at Twitter, colleagues present and past.” In the final tweet of his tweetstorm, he noted, “When I wear a Twitter shirt w/the logo on my chest, I feel like a superhero. May you all feel so much love+pride for the place you work.”

While it is unclear as to what Twitter’s long-term plans are for the newly vacated positions, for the time being, Messerschmidt and Hubbard’s positions will be rolled into the responsibilities of Ali Jafari, who currently heads revenue in business development.

Elon Musk announced Friday, July 8, that he is no longer pursuing a deal to buy Twitter. The news broke via Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings on Friday afternoon.

Musk started talking about his intentions to purchase Twitter earlier this year, eventually striking a deal with Twitter in April to purchase the social media website for around $44 billion. Since then, however, Musk has fallen strangely quiet about the subject. While his Twitter profile used to be filled with grand ideas for major Twitter changes and shake-ups, he's barely mentioned the deal over the past month.

By default, Twitter displays the algorithm-generated Home feed, which shows tweets that Twitter thinks you’ll find most interesting according to your previous interaction with the app.  Content could include tweets from people you don't follow (beyond retweets), such as viral tweets and tweets linked to particular subjects that you've shown an interest in.
