It's a double dose of Jeff Goldblum in this weird Independence Day video

ESD Films Presents: Conspiracy Theories
We’ve already seen quite a bit of footage from Independence Day: Resurgence, but the latest video promoting the upcoming film is almost certainly the weirdest one yet (and possibly ever).

Clocking in at a little more than three minutes, the video features Jeff Goldblum having a discussion with David Levinson, his character from the original Independence Day and the upcoming sequel. The double dose of Goldblum is ostensibly intended to clear up any confusion about the difference between the actor and the character he plays in the sci-fi franchise, but it’s really just a ridiculously entertaining reminder of why the veteran actor is so much fun to watch.

In the video, the pair discuss everything from their professional accomplishments to their eye color — with the latter topic prompting Goldblum to describe Levinson’s eyes as “the color of a glass of brandy on a table as the sun comes in the window at sunset.”

“Really? Well, I guess that’s an actor talking,” remarks Levinson.

Directed once again by Roland Emmerich, Independence Day: Resurgence picks up 20 years after the events of the original film, with the alien invaders that nearly wiped out humanity returning with an even greater armada. Although the human race has had two decades to prepare for the next invasion, even that might not be enough this time.

Along with Goldblum reprising his role from the 1996 movie, the film also brings back original cast members Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner. Newcomers to the franchise this time around include Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward.

Independence Day: Resurgence is scheduled to hit theaters June 24.

James Gunn refutes claim that certain characters are too niche for the DC Universe
James Gunn wears glasses and looks to the camera in DC Studios video.

Momentum has been slowly building for well over a year now for James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe. The multimedia, DC Comics-inspired franchise hasn't officially begun, though. That long-awaited moment will come when the new Gunn-created animated Suicide Squad spinoff TV series, Creature Commandos, premieres December 5 on Max. Nonetheless, Gunn is already not only receiving criticisms from some comic book readers and superhero fans but also pushing back against certain claims.

The DC Studios co-CEO did that very thing when one fan recently argued on Threads that Gunn's decision to greenlight projects about "niche" characters like Sgt. Rock and Swamp Thing makes it seem like he's only "making the DCU for hardcore comic book readers and not for the general audience." In response, Gunn wrote, "Don’t put Swamp Thing in the corner. That’s a project in development we’ve actually announced, and he’s an incredibly well-known character with not only some of the greatest comics of all time but [also] a successful film series and his own TV show, something that could be said of only a very small handful of DC characters."
