Let the sun shine in with Subaru’s luminescent 2017 BRZ Series.Yellow

Many carmakers today seem to shy away from real colors, instead painting their cars anonymous shades of silver and beige. You can’t accuse Subaru of doing that, though. The Japanese automaker is following up last year’s BRZ Series.HyperBlue special edition with a new Series.Yellow model. Guess what color it is.

The Series.Yellow was unveiled at the annual Wicked Big Meet all-Subaru car show in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, right in the heart of Subaru-loving New England. The special edition is based on the updated 2017 BRZ, will be limited to just 500 units, and won’t go on sale until next year.

In addition to its bright yellow paint, the Series.Yellow gets fog lights, black exterior mirrors, and model-specific black 17-inch alloy wheels. It also features exterior tweaks shared with the rest of the 2017 BRZ lineup, including new headlights and an aluminum rear spoiler.

The Series.Yellow offers the same level of equipment as the top BRZ Limited model, as well as the Performance Package that’s optional on the Limited. This adds Sachs performance shocks, a Brembo brake system, and other items. Like other 2017 BRZ models, the Series.Yellow uses a 2.0-liter boxer-four that produces 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is mandatory on the Series.Yellow.

The special edition’s interior matches its exterior, with yellow contrast stitching throughout, plus yellow BRZ logos embroidered in the headrests, and carpeted floor mats with yellow stitching. Everything that isn’t yellow is black leather or Alcantara. The Series.Yellow shares the dual-display setup of other 2017 BRZ models, with a 6.2-inch screen in the center stack, and a 4.2-inch LCD display in the gauge cluster that shows everything from lap times to oil temperature.

Subaru won’t discuss pricing for the 2017 BRZ Series.Yellow, but given that it won’t go on sale until next year, Subie fans should have plenty of time to save up for one of the 500 cars.

When you think Mini, you probably don’t think of infotainment. Personally, I think of the British flag taillights, the distinct exterior, and the surprising room on the inside. But after driving the Mini John Cooper Works Countryman over the past week, infotainment might well be something I think of more often when it comes to Mini. It’s charming.

It also, however, suffers from all the traps that other legacy automakers fall into when it comes to software design. Mini has something on its hands here — but it still needs some work.
Bringing the charm
The first thing that stood out to me about the system when I got in the car was how fun it was. That all starts with the display. It’s round! No, it’s not curved — the screen is a big, round display sits in at 9.4 inches, and I found it plenty large enough for day-to-day use.

That's especially true of plug-in hybrid vehicles, which can be charged like an EV and driven in all-electric mode for short distances, and have a gas engine as a backup for longer distances or to be used in combination with electric mode for more efficient driving.

Nearly all current owners of electric vehicles (EVs) are either satisfied or very satisfied with the experience, and 92% of them plan to buy another EV, according to a survey by the Global EV Drivers Alliance.

The survey of 23,000 EV drivers worldwide found that only 1% would return to a petrol or diesel car, while 4% would opt for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) if they had to replace their car.
