After waiting close to a decade for a new Bourne film starring Matt Damon, the handful of weeks we still have left to go are nothing. However, that doesn’t mean that any and all Jason Bourne trailers, teasers, and TV spots aren’t welcome. Universal Pictures dropped a new U.K. TV spot today, and we are pumped to get another glimpse into the latest adventures of the former government assassin-turned-fugitive.
Although the short preview is just 38 seconds long, it is full of the franchise’s usual adrenaline-spiking scenes. As you would expect, there are high-speed chases, narrow escapes, weapons, fiery explosions, and hand-to-hand combat galore. Many of the scenes are familiar thanks to other teasers, but the video does serve to heighten fan anticipation for Bourne’s latest face-off against the CIA.
What is particularly interesting about the TV spot is that it showcases Bourne’s extreme (and warranted) anger. In spite of how skilled he has been at keeping a cool head in past high-stress situations, he appears very on edge in the preview as he discusses how he came to become an assassin. “I volunteered because of a lie,” he says. “They said my father was killed by terrorists. He wasn’t killed by terrorists, was he?”
He only sounds more furious later. “I know what you did,” he says. “The next bullet’s in your head.”
With Matt Damon back in the starring role and director Paul Greengrass again at the helm, Jason Bourne promises to offer the quality action, twists, and turns that fans have come to expect. The cast also includes series veteran Julia Stiles and introduces new characters played by Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Ato Essandoh, Vincent Cassel, and more.
Jason Bourne hits theaters July 29.
