The future of Archer is not in the danger zone, nor will it be for the next few years. FX has renewed the critically acclaimed animated series for three more seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
With season 7 behind us, the renewal will start with season 8, which is set to kick off next year, and bring us more of the crazy gang through season 10. The series has managed to keep its momentum so far, and we’re optimistic about the future. Evidently, so is FX.
“We can’t say enough about what Adam (Reed), Matt (Thompson) and the entire Archer team at Floyd County have done to keep this series so insanely funny and vital through seven seasons,” said Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, in a statement. “The move to Los Angeles this past season as private detectives was just the latest twist in Archer‘s legendary exploits, and the next three seasons will be just as amazing and unpredictable.”
The series has made big changes over the seasons to keep the action fresh and exciting. The focus was originally on a group of government agents and employees, but they later moved agencies and even locations, and most recently opened up a private detective agency. FX’s three-season renewal means another 24 episodes (eight per season).
At this point, it’s unclear what the fate of Archer will be beyond season 10. It seems that the network has left open the possibility of still more seasons, likely depending on whether the show continues to have life and its fan base remains enthusiastic. Of course, the creative team’s input will matter, too. Archer executive producer Matt Thompson previously talked to the Daily Beast about the potential for bringing Sterling Archer and company to the big screen, and he indicated that they would want to wait till the show was over but gave no indication of when he thought that would be.
Created by Reed and Floyd County Productions, the animated series is produced by FX Productions. Reed and Thompson executive produce alongside co-EP Casey Willis. The voice cast includes H. Jon Benjamin as Archer, along with Reed, Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer, Amber Nash, and Lucky Yates.
