While there has been talk of a Wreck-It Ralph follow-up practically since the original was released, fans have waited a long time for actual plans to fall into place. Fortunately, the trio was able to reveal the sequel’s scheduled release date, proving that the news isn’t too good to be true. The film is set to open on March 9, 2018.
In the video announcement, the co-writers revealed that Johnston will join Moore as co-director this time around. Johnston rated his excitement about it at a six on a scale of 1-10, so hopefully that number will increase as the project progresses. Reilly, on the other hand, looked raring to go. He was already wearing his Wreck-It Ralph gloves as he interrupted the video multiple times while on the hunt for almond milk and coffee.
Reilly finally stayed in the frame long enough to talk about the movie, voicing his enthusiasm about being able to deliver Ralph’s popular lines again. He also shared a brief synopsis of the film: “Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the internet,” he said.
Ralph clearly has big adventures in store for him moving forward. In the first film, he accidentally unleashed a dangerous threat in his home arcade while trying to be the good guy for once. The original screenplay was written by Johnston and Jennifer Lee, based on a story Johnston had written with Moore and Jim Reardon.
