Walt Disney Studios
Disney is ready to take Wreck-It Ralph into the world beyond Litwak’s Family Fun Center & Arcade. Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, who co-wrote the 2012 animated film, teamed up with its star, John C. Reilly, to announce via Facebook Live that Ralph is finally coming back in an forthcoming sequel.

While there has been talk of a Wreck-It Ralph follow-up practically since the original was released, fans have waited a long time for actual plans to fall into place. Fortunately, the trio was able to reveal the sequel’s scheduled release date, proving that the news isn’t too good to be true. The film is set to open on March 9, 2018.

In the video announcement, the co-writers revealed that Johnston will join Moore as co-director this time around. Johnston rated his excitement about it at a six on a scale of 1-10, so hopefully that number will increase as the project progresses. Reilly, on the other hand, looked raring to go. He was already wearing his Wreck-It Ralph gloves as he interrupted the video multiple times while on the hunt for almond milk and coffee.

Reilly finally stayed in the frame long enough to talk about the movie, voicing his enthusiasm about being able to deliver Ralph’s popular lines again. He also shared a brief synopsis of the film: “Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the internet,” he said.

Ralph clearly has big adventures in store for him moving forward. In the first film, he accidentally unleashed a dangerous threat in his home arcade while trying to be the good guy for once. The original screenplay was written by Johnston and Jennifer Lee, based on a story Johnston had written with Moore and Jim Reardon.

For those who didn’t catch the Facebook announcement, the official Wreck-It Ralph Twitter account shared the exciting news as well.

Marvel casts Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Wonder Man for Disney+
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in Candyman.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will reprise his role as DC Comics' villainous Black Manta in next year's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, Abdul-Mateen is going to get a chance to portray a superhero of his own in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. Deadline is reporting that Abdul-Mateen has been cast as Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man, for his own upcoming Disney+ series.

Don't let the name fool you. Marvel's Wonder Man has nothing to do with DC's Wonder Woman. Instead, Stan Lee and artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby created Simon Williams as a one-off Avengers villain in 1964. Within his debut story, Simon was a disgraced executive who was given superpowers by the Masters of Evil in return for infiltrating the Avengers and betraying them. Regardless, Simon ultimately sided with the Avengers and turned against the Masters even though it cost him his life.

The captain and crew of the ship The Inevitable looks at stowaway Maisie in a scene from The Sea Beast.

It's one thing to create an animated movie that wins kids over, but when the same film also delivers a rewarding experience for the adults watching along with them, that's something special.

The Netflix film The Sea Beast is just that kind of movie, and it taps into that same elusive, all-ages appeal that studios like Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks have delivered so reliably in recent years.
