The best iPhone 7 battery cases

The iPhone 7 isn’t well-regarded when it comes to battery life. The A10 Fusion processor remains powerful despite the phone’s age, but it tends to chew up battery life, especially when your brightness is up and apps continually refresh in the background. If you want to make the most of your battery, you should consider a dedicated battery case. These durable cases not only protect your iPhone from external damage, but they also extend the lifespan of your battery, allowing you to game, text, and listen to music undisturbed.

Apple Smart Battery Case

  • Capacity: 2,365mAh
  • Output: 1A
  • Size: 7.4 by 3.5 by 0.9 inches
  • Weight: 158.7 grams (5.6 oz)

Apple’s own Smart Battery Case is the go-to accessory if you want seamless integration with your iPhone 7. If you have any experience with the iPhone 6S Smart Battery Case, you’re in for much of the same with the one made for the iPhone 7, save for a different cutout around the camera and none for the headphone jack (because the iPhone 7 doesn’t have one). The case will increase your call, internet, and video time by 26, 22, and 24 hours, respectively, meaning even heavy smartphone users should be able to use their devices without worrying about a full recharge.

You can also use the case with Lightning-supported accessories, including the Lighting to USB cable and the charging dock, without having to remove it. As far as protection goes, this case is pretty basic. The interior is lined with a microfiber material, while the outside is made of silicone.

Mophie Juice Pack Wireless

  • Capacity: 2,525mAh
  • Output: 1A
  • Size: 5.90 by 2.80 by 0.65 inches
  • Weight: 99.5 grams (3.51 oz)

Mophie’s Juice Pack Wireless battery case should more than double your iPhone 7’s battery life, and it also adds support for Qi wireless charging. The case will last for 500 recharges and can provide an estimated 27 hours of extra battery life to your iPhone 7. Just press and hold the button on the back for two seconds to begin charging your phone. The Juice Pack Wireless has LEDs on the back to show how much power is left. It also supports pass-through charging, so when you plug in, it will charge your iPhone 7 first.

It adds quite a bit of bulk, but it doesn’t block the speaker, microphone, camera, or any other important components of the phone. The case is actually designed to enhance the speaker’s audio quality, as it redirects sound from the bottom of the phone to the front. It’s also compatible with Mophie’s Charge Force wireless mount, so you can easily charge it while driving.

Trianium Atomic Pro Battery Case

  • Capacity: 3,200mAh
  • Output: 1A
  • Size: 5.9 by 2.7 by 0.4 inches
  • Weight: 158.7 grams (5.6 oz)

While Trianium’s battery case has one of the lower capacities on this list, it’ll still get the job done when it comes to keeping your phone alive. It can provide another full battery charge; Trianium breaks it down like this: 14-plus hours of talk time or 10 additional hours to browse the internet. The LED indicator on the back will keep you up to date on how much power remains.

Unfortunately, like most other battery cases for the iPhone 7, it doesn’t support Apple’s Lightning headphones or other headphones that use the Lightning port. If you’re concerned about overall protection, the case has a hard back plate and a protective dual-layer bumper that safeguards against drops, shocks, and scratches. While it adds a bit of bulk, it does offer good protection.

Alpatronix BX170 Charging Case

  • Capacity: 3,200mAh
  • Output: 1A
  • Size: 6.05 by 2.87 by 0.63 inches
  • Weight: 107.7 grams (3.8 oz)

This case from Alphatronix will get the job done when the time comes to recharge your phone, but like some other charging cases, it is not compatible with the headphones Apple provides. The case also isn’t charged using the Lightning connector, but instead requires a Micro USB cable — thankfully, there is one included. You can still charge the case without removing the phone, but it means keeping another cable nearby.

Aside from those minor drawbacks, this is a great iPhone 7 battery case, as well as a decent protective case. The dual-layer design combines a hard outer shell with a shock-absorbing bumper, there’s a scratch-resistant finish, and the raised bezel will keep the screen away from surfaces when the phone is face down. All ports are accessible, there are LED indicators on the back, and it’s covered by a lifetime warranty.

Moshi IonSuit iPhone 7 Battery Case

  • Capacity: 3,020 mAh
  • Output: 2.1A
  • Size: 6.1 by 2.8 by 0.7 inches
  • Weight: 113 grams (4 oz)

If you’re looking for a great battery case that’s also super protective, the Moshi IonSuit iPhone 7 Battery Case is worth considering. It’s bulkier than some alternatives on this list, but for a good reason. The drop rating promises to protect your device, and a lip around the screen’s edge helps reduce frontal contact.

The case’s battery is 3,020mAh, and at that rate, your phone’s battery life can potentially double. This case is also compatible with 2.1A quick-charging, which means it’s quicker at charging than some of our other products on the list. This battery pack might be a little on the pricier side, but its overall functionality of battery life and protective features makes it worth some consideration.

The best argument for a battery case is that it will keep your phone fully operational, all throughout your day. With these devices, you don’t need to worry about your phone dropping out just when you need it. Cases also provide reliable protection against bumps and drops. If you love your iPhone 7 but get frustrated by its short battery life, you may find a lot of solace in a battery case. Soon you’ll be able to operate your phone at max brightness or run several apps at once without worrying about killing the battery.

We lead incredibly mobile lives. We’re on the move frequently, and we need our phones at the ready most of the time. With a battery case, you’ll be able to keep your phone accessible and battery charged without having to plug it in. Sure, not every battery case is rated the same. That said, you’ll likely find a case that best fits your preferences if you sort through our list.

There are many third-party manufactured battery cases available right now that fit the iPhone 7, but they don’t come with the reliable bells and whistles that a trusted manufacturer can provide. For example, many third-party cases require users to take off the case just to take a picture. You could soon find that a cheap case like that is even more frustrating than a phone battery that dies quickly.

A hidden iOS 18.1 upgrade made it harder to extract data from iPhones
A person holding the Apple iPhone 16 Plus.

Apple Intelligence was the most notable upgrade that arrived on iPhones with the iOS 18 series of updates. But it seems Apple reinforced the security protocols in the background that could prevent bad actors from gaining unauthorized access to iPhones that haven’t been unlocked in a while by their legitimate owner.

Earlier this month, 404Media reported that law enforcement officials are troubled by iPhones that are mysteriously rebooting. Citing a report courtesy of officials in Michigan, the outlet notes that the reboots are hampering the ability to access what’s stored on the phones through brute-force unlock methods.
