Gamma radiation turned mild-mannered Bruce Banner into the Incredible Hulk. Hyundai is trying for a similar transformation with its latest SEMA concept.

With the help of accessory supplier EGR Group, Hyundai has turned a Veloster Turbo into a wicked street racer.

The most striking aspect of the EGR Night Racer concept is its paint, a color affectionately known as “Yellowcake,” possibly because it makes the car look like it’s glowing with radioactivity.

As if the Night Racer wasn’t already easy to spot, even in the dark, Hyundai and EGR added a roof-mounted LED light bar. A “night racer” needs to light the way for its driver, right?

Combined with the aggressively flared fenders, the light bar makes the Night Racer look a bit like a rally car, which is not a problem at all.

Hyundai also made some modifications under the skin.

The stock Veloster Turbo’s 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been massaged to produce 250 horsepower – up from 201 hp. The Night Racer also sports Brembo brakes, DPE three-piece racing wheels, and Toyo semi-slick tires.

Most SEMA show goers will probably pay attention to that exterior, though. Its combination of wild paint and body add-ons, on top of the Veloster’s already bizarre-looking three-door hatch body, should make quite an impression.

The Hulked-out Veloster will probably make Hyundai’s other SEMA concept, the 1,000 hp Genesis Coupe the company built with Bisimoto Engineering, look subtle and restrained. Until the Genesis gets fired up, that is.
