Toyota's latest concept car tries to use technology to create an emotional connection with its users. Capable of autonomous driving, the LQ features an artificial intelligent personal assistant called Yui. Toyota plans to give public test drives of the LQ in Japan in 2020.

Toyota has announced that starting with its 2020 line up of seven hybrid vehicles and one fuel cell model it is extending warranties on the hybrid battery. Previously covered for eight years and 100,000 miles the new warranty is extended to 10 years and 150,000 miles.

Toyota is still exploring how to use solar cells to partially power its Prius. A partnership with Sharp has yielded some interesting results, with the automaker about to start testing a car with highly efficient solar panels. Current data suggests the design could give the plug-in hybrid an extra 27 miles of range.

BMW will reportedly launch a hydrogen fuel cell version of its X5 SUV in the early 2020s. The X5 will test the waters for a higher-volume BMW fuel-cell car, co-developed with Toyota. BMW will reportedly launch the higher-volume fuel cell model in 2025.
