Acer Aspire Notebooks Pick Up Core i3, Core i5 Processors

Computer maker Acer is looking to raise the performance bar for its Aspire notebook line, introducing the new Aspire AS5740 and AS7740 based on Intel’s Core i5 and Core i3 processors. The systems also pack HD capable displays, ample memory and storage, Acer’s well-regardless Gemstone design…and starter prices that won’t put off many buyers looking for high performance rigs. Gamers and media fans will appreciate that select models are available with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 or HD5470 graphics.

“As games become more lifelike and movies push the limits on special effects, more powerful and intelligent performance is required for a truly dynamic computing experience,” said Acer America senior product marketing manager Preeta Anil, in a statement. “Consumers wanting to enjoy all the latest digital media in a mobile platform will appreciate the AS5740 and AS7740 Series.”

The Aspire AS5740 features an Intel Core i5 processor running along at 2.26 GHz, with a 15.6-nch LED-backlit 1,366 by 768-pixel display. Options include up to 500 GB of hard drive storage and AT Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics with 1 GB of dedicated video memory; the 5740s also pack a multi-in-one media card reader, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, gigabit Ethernet, an integrated webcam, and an 8× Super-Multi DVD drive. The Aspire 5470s also pack built-in stereo speakers and support for 5.1 surround sound audio output, HDMI output, four USB 2.0 ports, and a 6 cell battery that should run for up to four hours. The Aspire AS7740 jumps up to a 17.3-inch display with a 1,600 by 900-pixel resolution and offers an Intel Core i3 processor running at 2.1 Ghz; the 7740 will be available available with a Blu-ray drive as an option and sport 4 USB 2.0 ports; of course, they also weigh a little more than their 15-inch brethren, coming in a little over 7 pounds.

Acer says the new Aspires should be available January 17, with configurations starting as low as $599.99; they ship with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. A configuration of the AS5470 with 4 GB of RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5640 graphics, and 500 GB of hard drive storage should retail for $749.99; that same price will pick up an Aspire AS7740 with Intel GMA HD graphics, 4 GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive, and a Blu-ray optical drive. Both models come with Acer’s one-year International Traveler’s warranty.

MacBook Pro 16 vs. MacBook Pro 14: here’s which M4 you should buy
The MacBook Pro 16-inch on a table.

MacBook Pros are some of the best laptops money can buy. With the M4 chip now onboard, these laptops have never been so powerful, and the update brings some interesting upgrades, such as the improved 12-megapixel webcam and brighter screen. They're the best MacBooks that have ever been made, and it's a perfect time to pick one up based on upgrade timing.

But just because the entire MacBook Pro lineup is better now, that doesn't mean it's any easier to choose between the two size options that are available. The brain-computer interface revolution is just getting started
tech for change brain computer interface who its bxcxfghw

Whether it's jacking into the Matrix or becoming a Na'avi in Avatar, connecting brains to computers is a science-fiction trope that I never thought I'd see become a reality. But increasingly, BCIs (brain-computer interfaces) have become a serious area of study in research labs, rapidly advancing from research labs to real human trials -- perhaps most famously by the Elon Musk's company Neuralink.

While this promises individuals with disabilities a greater degree of freedom and control, along with potential applications in gaming and health care, significant technical, ethical, and regulatory challenges remain. But the more I dug into the topic, the more I found leaders and researchers rising to the occasion to lead us responsibly into the future of the this groundbreaking technology.
