Acer has announced the availability of its Aspire One AOD150 netbook portable computer in the United States. The AOD150 expands on the original Aspire One’s 8.9-inch screen by kicking the display out to 10.1 inches, although it still offers a resolution of 1,024 by 600 pixels. Past that, all the Aspire One’s standard features are on board, including Wi-Fi, Windows XP, 1 GB of RAM, and up to 160 GB of hard drive storage, with the idea of putting email, Web surfing VoIP calling, and everyday media tasks in consumers’ laps without the heft of a more full-powered notebook.
“The success of the Aspire One netbook illustrates the enormous demand consumers have for mobile devices that keep them connected,” said Acer America VP of product management Sumit Agnihotry, in a statement. “The new 10.1-inch Aspire One has something for everyone, whether a business user continuously on-the-go, a young student needing an introductory PC, or tech aficionado seeking a lightweight, secondary device with enduring battery power.”
The Aspire One packs a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, Intel’s GMA 950 graphics, an Acer Crystal Eye Web camera with microphone, a media card reader, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi wireless networking, three USB 2.0 ports, integrated stereo speakers, weighs just under 3 pounds, and supposedly ships with a six-cell battery that offers six hours of usage…although some reports have the units shipping with a four-cell battery that offers only about half that performance.
The Aspire One AOD150 are available in a variety of configurations at Acer resellers and retailers at prices starting at $349.99.
