An End To Child Abuse Sites?

An End To Child Abuse Sites?According to the UK-based Internet Watch Foundation, there are 2,755 sites with images of child abuse, and 80% of them are selling those images.   The IWF,which is responsible for finding and eliminating child porn sites in Britain, is urging ISPs, police and government to work together to eradicate what it terms this “manageable”number of sites.   It would appear to be the first time anyone has counted the number of sites offering these images, which has remained static for the last three years.   "We think2,755 is a manageable number," an IWF spokeswoman told the BBC. "We are now asking for a worldwide effort to go in and really combat this issue."  Fewer than 1% of the sites are hosted in Britain, in part because the IWF shares its lists of sites hosting images with ISPs, who can then block them. The group would like an internationalbody do much the same around the globe.   "It would make it much harder for criminals to make money from the crime and thereby combat the problem," the spokeswoman said.  As yet, however, no group has emerged to take on the problem internationally.

Intel’s upcoming high-end CPU failed to beat AMD
An Intel Core Ultra Series 2 chip embedded in a piece of glass.

If various reports are anything to go by, Intel is about to expand its share of the best processors with the upcoming Arrow Lake. As a result, benchmark leaks are almost a daily occurrence at this point. While the flagship Core Ultra 9 285K is mostly doing a good job against its AMD competitors, the non-K version failed to beat the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and the Intel Core 9 14900.

The Core Ultra 9 285 appeared in a Geekbench 6 test, first shared by Benchleaks, and the scores are nothing to write home about. The processor scored 3,081 points in the single-core test, which is fairly competitive, and a measly 14,150 points in the multi-core benchmark, which is disappointing. In fact, while the single-core test went better, both of these scores put it firmly behind many CPUs that we'd expect it to be able to beat.

Meta may have canceled its high-end Apple Vision Pro competitor
The Meta Quest 3 and Quest Pro appear side-by-side.

According to a report from The Information citing two Meta employees, Meta has canceled its plans for a premium mixed-reality headset. It seems the company told Reality Lab employees to halt work on the product this week after executives, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg, reviewed the project.

It's uncertain whether the device was destined to be a sequel to the Meta Quest Pro or a completely new product, but it's clear that developing a competitor for the Apple Vision Pro was the purpose of the project.

Intel’s highly anticipated new graphics card is releasing before the end of the year
The Arc A770 graphics card running in a PC.

It looks like we'll be seeing Intel's upcoming Battlemage GPUs before the end of the year. Intel reportedly held a conference with Asus today that covered everything from updates to Intel's current instability crisis to upcoming Arrow Lake CPUs. But an interesting tidbit about Battlemage GPUs, which are gunning for a slot among the best graphics cards, is what stood out.

VideoCardz picked up the news, which was originally shared on the Weibo forums. The poster attended the event, and they claim that Intel says Battlemage graphics cards will be out before the end of the year. That makes sense. We know Intel's Lunar Lake CPUs, which include integrated graphics built on the same architecture, are due out in September. We've also seen several shipments of engineering samples emerge, suggesting a launch is close.
