The AI race has taken an interesting turn lately, with frontier labs now competing to build agents that can keep working even when you are not actively talking to them. Meta helped push that idea into the spotlight with Muse, OpenAI followed soon after with Dots, and now Anthropic is throwing its hat in the ring with Claude Duet.

Duet is launching as a research preview for Pro and Max subscribers in the US through a waitlist. Anthropic is pitching it mainly at professionals and small-business owners who want help keeping track of work without constantly checking every app themselves.

We’re opening a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent.

It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf. pic.twitter.com/kt8gAbWuX8

Duet wants to handle the boring stuff first

Each morning, Claude Duet can put together a brief covering the things it thinks deserve your attention. It can then keep monitoring your services throughout the day and message you when something needs a decision.

Duet is also capable of performing more complex tasks than serving simple reminders or summaries. It can also schedule meetings, build dashboards, prepare financial or sales forecasts, draft follow-up emails, and even work on web apps. And since it runs on its own virtual machine and browser, those tasks can continue even when your computer is off.

Claude Duet still needs you looking over its shoulder

Anthropic is giving Duet quite a bit of freedom, but clear limits remain on what it can do on its own. Things like sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting anything still require the user’s permission.

Duet is still a research preview, and Anthropic has acknowledged that the agent still has a lot to learn. The company says it can misread a thread, misjudge the urgency of something, or miss an update that arrives between check-ins, and all that background work also counts toward the same usage limits as the rest of Claude. Bigger jobs, such as building a financial model or a presentation, can burn through those limits faster because they require more model turns.

Google Chrome’s new early warning system could help you spot scam sites
Chrome can now flag websites that look suspicious even when Safe Browsing is not confident enough to call them dangerous.
Chrome

Anyone who has used Google Chrome has probably seen the red warning screen when they click a suspicious link or try to visit a potentially dangerous website. Google is now beefing up this warning system by adding a new layer that will flag websites that seem fishy, even when Safe Browsing does not have enough confidence to classify them as outright dangerous.

The new Suspicious sites category is being added to Chrome’s Enhanced Protection mode and will sit below the existing Dangerous sites classification. Google says these are pages that show deceptive patterns commonly associated with malicious websites, but where Safe Browsing has a lower-confidence verdict.

ChatGPT now has locked chats to keep your sensitive conversations hidden
Locked Chats keeps your private conversations out of that loop by also shielding it away from the chatbot's memory.
Locked Chats for ChatGPT

OpenAI has rolled out a new ChatGPT feature that lets you tuck away your more sensitive conversations behind a lock. It’s called Locked Chats, and it’s the first time I’ve seen this kind of protection on a major AI chatbot. The idea is pretty straightforward, as is clearly evident by the name.

When you move an existing conversation into the Locked Chats section, it is protected by a PIN when you use ChatGPT in a web browser or through the desktop app. On phones and tablets, the protection goes a step further. Besides your device passcode, you can unlock these chats with biometrics, such as Face ID on an iPhone or a fingerprint sensor on Android devices.
