ATI Says Radeon HD 4870 X2 World

AMD may be facing some tough times, but its graphic division formerly known as ATI is forging ahead, introducing what it claims to be the world’s fastest graphics card in the form of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2. The 4870 X2 packs 2 GB of memory and two ATI Radeon HD 4800 series graphics processor, cross-connected using new high-speed technology sure to appeal to gamers and other folks who demand high performance graphics. AMD is also rolling out the ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2; together the two cards make up AMD’s 4800 X2 series.

“The ATI Radeon HD 4800 X2 series is proof that our graphics strategy is working,” said Rick Bergman, senior VP and general manager of AMD’s graphics group. “Now, only a few short weeks after the launch of those products, AMD reclaims the ultimate performance crown and continues to deliver winning products to market in the ATI Radeon HD 4800 X2 series.”

Both cards feature DirectX 10.1 support 2 GB of memory, and support for ATI CrossFireX for setting up dual-graphics card configurations. The 4870 X2 offers up to 2.4 teraflops of processing power and a total of 1,600 stream processors.

The 4870 X2 is available now for a suggested price of $549, while the 4850 X2 should be available in September for $399.
