A desktop hand massager for gamers? Yup, you know you need it

PC gaming peripherals aren’t exactly known for ergonomics and for those long playing sessions, that can be an issue. Japanese tech company Bauhutte has launched a desktop hand massager for gamers, allowing you to gain better circulation, massage sore hands and tendons, and relax.

Aptly called the Hand Massager, the Bauhutte MSG-01H-BK model is a desktop accessory with a short and broad opening for you to insert your entire hand into.

Once powered on, you can opt for anything ranging from a Shiatsu massage for your hand to a mode that stretches and kneads your fingers for what is described as a massage that replicates the feeling of another person’s touch on your fingers and palms. The device uses 15 heated air cushions to replicate the feeling of an actual massage.

While the device is targeted at gamers, it will also work well in offices and home offices, especially for remote and hybrid workers as an addition to a good ergonomic desk setup. The company recommends that you use the hand massager before gaming sessions, during breaks, or any time you need to give your hands a rest. An optional hand warmer mode can also relax stiff fingers.

The idea may seem like a novel luxury in the states, but it isn’t entirely unheard of among competitive gamers, according to Kotaku. Esports gamers often use hand warmers to help prevent hand injuries during long gaming sessions. Non-gamers who are at their desks typing for long periods on a keyboard can benefit from the Bauhutte MSG-01H-BK. The Hand Massager comes with varying settings to adjust intensity levels in addition to the different massage modes.

Currently, the MSG-01H-BK seems limited to Japan at this time, but there are similar contraptions that you can buy on Amazon and Ali Express, all of which boast similar features to the MSG-01H-BK. And while the MSG-01H-BK retails for $150 in Japan, the competing models on these digital storefronts range in price from $60 to $160.

Have a mechanical keyboard? You need this free app
A custom keyboard sitting among keycaps and switches.

I'm a certified mechanical keyboard nerd at this point, which shouldn't come as a surprise considering most of the best gaming keyboards are mechanical options. Still, mechanical keyboards aren't perfect. Because of their mechanical nature, there are multiple failure points on each switch, and over time, your keyboard will start to act up.

In most cases, you have to follow a troubleshooting path that requires a switch puller and a soldering iron as you slowly figure out why some keys work and others don't. Thankfully, there's an easier way, and it's a free app that I discovered while trying to troubleshoot my own keyboard.

What is RAM? Here’s everything you need to know

Random-access memory, or RAM, is an essential component in everything from desktop computers to smartphones. RAM is a high-speed, short-term storage solution that gives applications, games, and the operating system itself, quick access to important information. That saves it the time of retrieving the data from much slower storage, like hard drives. Even the best SSDs are slower than RAM.

Like other components in your devices, though, there are many different types of RAM. RAM speed can be affected by its type, the model, or its generation, and its price can vary wildly depending on the capacity you're buying (assuming you've checked how much RAM you need), and what device it's going into.

What is an SSD? Here’s everything you need to know
A man holds a Corsair MP600 PRO LPX PS5 SSD next to an open PS5.

You may have seen the acronym SSD and wondered what it really is. First off, the acronym stands for solid state drives, and they've become the premier storage medium for most modern desktop PCs, laptops, games consoles, tablets, and portable gaming systems.

The best SSDs offer much greater bandwidth than traditional hard drives, with lower latency, reduced power draw, and much greater durability against physical damage. They are smaller, lighter, and more affordable today than ever before.
