Buffalo Dualie Docks A Hard Drive and an iPhone/iPod

One of the problems with all the cool portable devices on the market today is that they tend to make for a lot of desk clutter—particularly if they’re things you want to take with you all the time, like, say, a phone. For iPhone and iPod users, Buffalo Technology has come up with the Dualie, a dock that combines both a charging dock for an iPhone or iPod along with a 500 GB portable hard drive that can be popped out and taken anywhere.

The Dualie dock connects to a computer using USB 2.0 (and also sports an extra USB 2.0 port and a mini USB port for peripherals), and comes with adapters for docking (and charging) the iPhone, iPod touch, iPod classic, and iPod nano. But hooking up an iPod to a computer is pretty old-school: the Dualie also comes with a portable 500 GB hard drive that sports USB 2.0, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800 interfaces, making it easy to transfer and transport large amounts of data—and the standard interfaces mean you don’t have to have a Dualie dock at a destination, any USB or FireWire cable will do. The drive comes preformatted for Mac OS X, but the Dualie will also work with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Right now the Dualie is an exclusive through Apple, although we imagine it will migrate to other retailers eventually. And that might be good for its pricing: Apple wants $249.95 for the Dualie—although, if you’re already in the market for a 500 GB drive and an iPod/iPhone dock, that’s not a horrible price.

I tried the Apple Vision Pro. Here’s why it won’t replace my iPhone
Christine wearing the Apple Vision Pro demo unit.

The Apple Vision Pro is one of Apple’s most fascinating new product launches. It’s the first new product line from Apple since the Apple Watch, but the hype around it has been more like when Apple first introduced the original iPhone. Of course, Apple was not the first to the market with a VR/AR headset, but it is definitely what would be considered the most “mainstream” option out there, considering the brand name.

When Apple announced the Apple Vision Pro on June 5, 2023, during its WWDC 2023 keynote, I was excited. After years of rumors, it was finally happening. Preorders started on January 19, 2024, and the  Apple Vision Pro launched on February 2, 2024, in the U.S. The problem? It costs at least $3,500, making it a hard sell for many as a first-generation Apple product.

How to screen record on an iPhone or iPad
iPhone X tips and tricks

Sometimes taking a screenshot isn't enough to get your point across when you're trying to share something from your shine new iPhone 15 Pro. While you can take multiple screenshots to help a friend or family member learn how to do something or even just show off your finesse in Genshin Impact, why not just give them a video clip where they can follow the entire process?

The good news is that Apple makes this really easy to do in iOS 17 without the need for any third-party apps. Just like taking a screenshot, screen recordings are automatically saved to your photo library, where you can trim them, edit them, and share them like any other video clip.
