Computer maker Dell has added a new model to its line of Precision high-performance notebooks—and whilte the new Precision M2300 comes in at the low end of the line in terms of size, engineers and developers may not want to quickly write it off as a portable computing solution.
The M2300 sports an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (from a 2 GHz T7250 to a 2.6 GHz T7800), 1 to 4 GB of RAM, NVIDIA Quadro FX 360M graphics wth 128 MB of dedicated video memory, a 14.1-inch 1,440 by 900-pixel LCD display, and a choice of Windows XP Professional or Vista Business/Ultimate. For storage, the M2300 offers up to a 200 GB SATA hard drive, a choice of CD-ROM or multi-mayer DVD burners, options for Bluetooth and 802.11a/g/n wireless networking, mobile broadband via Verizon Wireless, and an integrated fingerprint reader. The M2300 also features PCMCIA expansion, but doesn’t offer an ExpressCard slot.
Dell hopes the M2300 will fill a mobile workstation niche for professionals who need serious processing and graphics power (the Nvidia controller puts it in a strongs performance class than Dell’s mainstream Inspiron and Latitude lines), but who don’t need all the frills of a high-end mobile workstation. (For those folks, Dell offers the larger and more tricked-out M4300 and M6300 workstations, with 15.4-inch and 17-inch screens, respectively.
Prices on the M2300 start at $1,439, although prices quickly jump towards $1,600 with wireless networking and DVD optical drive options.
