eBay Slashes "Buy It Now" Seller Fees

eBay Slashes "Buy It Now" Seller Fees

In a sign of just how important fixed-price sales have become to the auction site, Information Week reports that eBay has reduced the seller fees for “But It Now” items to just 35 cents per item – that’s a possible reduction of 91%, as fees previously ranged from 35 cents to $4.

More than that, if a seller has multiple copies of an item, they can all be listed for just the one fee, and listing times have been extended from a week to a month, meaning sellers don’t have to renew and pay fees so regularly.

With growing competition on fixed-price items from other sources that don’t charge listing fees, this is eBay’s attempt to hit back. The company also announced that as of October it will protect buyers by only allowing payment via PayPal or by electronic credit card payments.

Buy now, fix later — PC hardware feels like it’s in early access
CPU pads on the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X.

PC hardware is feeling increasingly unstable at launch, and that really came into view with AMD's release of Ryzen 9000 CPUs. AMD released several updates for these CPUs in the weeks following their release, boosting performance by significant margins. That performance was absent from these CPUs at launch, as you can read in our Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X review, suggesting they weren't quite ready for prime time when they released in August.

AMD isn't alone here. Although Intel's 13th-gen and 14th-gen didn't have big issues at release, they've faced a major instability crisis that forced Intel to replace an untold number of impacted CPUs. Between the latest two generations from AMD and Intel, buying a CPU has meant signing on for problems that are hard to foresee.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU.

There's no disputing that the RTX 4090 is one of the best graphics cards you can buy, but now might be your last chance to buy it. According to members of the Board Channels forum (via VideoCardz), Nvidia has discontinued the graphics card and will stop fulfilling new orders this month.

We saw this coming. Last month, members of the Board Channels forums signaled that Nvidia was getting ready to discontinue the RTX 4090 to make way for next-gen RTX 50-series GPUs. Nvidia hasn't said it's discontinuing the card, and it likely won't, but some regions are already experiencing shortages and increased prices. The German outlet PC Games Hardware writes: "It is now becoming increasingly clear that the GeForce RTX 4090 ... will soon have reached its end of lifetime," following high prices and "increasingly poor availability" in the region.
