eMachines has introduced its new eMD620-5777 notebook computer, aiming to find a sweet spot in the portable computing landscape where a basic notebook doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, but can still easily handle everyday computing tasks. The eMD620-5777 offers a 14.1-inch, 1,280 by 800-pixel LCD display driven by integrated ATI Radeon x1200 graphics, a 1.6 GHZ AMD Athlon 2650e CPU, and 1 GB of RAM. The systems also ship with WIndows Vista Home Edition, arguably putting it a cut above smaller Atom-powered systems running Windows XP.
"The new eMachines is a great way for customers to get everything they need in a notebook at a really exceptional price—something that’s welcome in today’s challenging financial climate," said Acer senior product manager Ray Sawall.
Additional features in the eMD620-5777 include a Super Multi dual-layer DVD burner, a 160 GB hard drive, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi wireless networking, two USB 2.0 ports, plus headphone and microphone jacks.
The eMD620-5777 should go on sale at Best Buy November 1 for a suggested retail price of $429.99.
