Fujitsu Rolls Out Six Centrino 2 LifeBooks

Fujitsu has introduced six new LifeBook notebook and convertible tablet computers based on Intel’s just-released Centrino 2 platform, offering a selection of larger displays and one unit with a gesture-enabled touchpad.

“With Intel Centrino 2 processor technology and our commitment to quality and customer service, our customers are assured of getting exceptional value and performance, whether they are consumers looking to combine mobility and great entertainment, mobile professionals looking for maximum productivity, or organizations, such as those in education, healthcare, and government, that demand high performance and high quality on limited budgets,” said Fujitsu senior director of mobile product management Paul Moore, in a statement.

The new LifeBook A6210 offers a 15.4-inch LCD display, wireless USB, eSATA storage connectivity, HDMI output, and a gesture-enabled touchpad that enables users to control many common functions (like zooming into a photo) with simple gestures. The A6210 is available with either shared or dedicated graphics, an external ExpressCard TV tuner, fingerprint sensor, and/or a Blu-ray drive. Prices start at $849 for a unit with a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 3 GB of RAM, and a 250 GB hard drive.

The LifeBook E8420 aims at business users, with a 15.4-inch display, DVD burner, integrated Webcam for video conferencing, and a raft of security and management features. The E8420 is available with optional Nvidia 9300 GS graphics, optional wireless USB, and configurations with 1 to 2 GB of RAM running on Intel Core 2 Duo processors ranging from 2.26 to 2.53 GHz. Pricing starts at $1,359; units should begin shipping in August.

Fujitsu is also offering the LifeBook T5010 and LifeBook T4220 convertible notebook, along with the T1010 tablet PC. Each sport a 13.3-inch display and are among the lightest convertible PCs on the marketing. The T5010 features a modular bay that can handle an optical drive or second battery, while the T1010 offers a fixed optical drive and skips over the security-related features in the enterprise-targeting T5010.

Finally, Fujitsu is also rolling out some thin-and-light notebooks in the form of the LifeBook S6520 and the LifeBook S7220; both sport 14.1-inch displays, while the S7220 sports a Web cam. Pricing on the S7220 starts at $1,229, while the S6520 starts at $1,479; both should be available in August.
