How to Choose a Gaming PC Deal on Prime Day

Interestingly enough, Gaming PCs probably have some of the most complex and varied configurations out there, even compared to laptops, so it can be a bit overwhelming to make a good pick. That said, there are some basic standards that you should look for, such as having at least 8GB of RAM if you’re buying a general-use desktop and 16GB at minimum for a gaming desktop. You can actually check how much you need for various uses with our guide on how much RAM you need.

Also, if you’re building a gaming PC, then you have several choices for GPU. If you mostly play strategy games, indies, and casual games, you don’t really need a super-powerful GPU, so something like an RTX 4060 or RTX 4070 will be more than enough. On the other hand, if you want to play the latest games at 4K, then only the RTX 4080 Super and the RTX 4090 are going to be feasible. As for CPU, again, for most folks, an i5 or R5 will suffice, but if you’re building anything better than a budget gaming rig, then an i7 or R7 is the way to go.

There’s also the option of buying something more budget-friendly now and upgrading later, in which case you should check out our guide on how to build a PC from scratch to get a better sense of what you’d be comfortable with.

How We Chose These Gaming PC Prime Day Deals

With such a huge selection of gaming PCs out there, we really have to look through dozens of pages of deals so that we can compare the specs vs. the price. Not only that, but we also have to lend some focus on what configuration we’re recommending, since some pre-built PCs may not have balanced specs. For example, a brand my stick a high-end CPU on a mid-range build, and that doesn’t really offer anything except in very specific circumstances the average consumer won’t really run into.

At the end of the day, though, our main focus is always on getting you the best and cheapest deal for your money so that you can buy with confidence.
