Getac 9213 Rugged Business Notebook

Getac 9213 Rugged Business NotebookRubber gaskets, shock-mounted hard drives and rugged exterior coatings may go a long way in making a notebook tough, but they certainly don’t flatter them on the scale. Most rugged notebooks weigh far more than their consumer-grade counterparts, leading to an interesting paradox: You can take them anywhere, but probably won’t want to.

Getac’s new 9213 rugged business notebook defies that expectation with a weight of just 3.9 pounds – not at all excessive for a machine in its 13.3-inch size class. Getac pulled it off with a magnesium alloy chassis, which is extremely strong for its weight, along with other light-but-tough components.

The “business rugged” classification isn’t quite as impressive as its mil-spec cousin, but should be more than enough for the avid traveler who’s prone to a mishap now and then. It can withstand falls of about 30 inches, shake off spills on its liquid-resistant keyboard, and hold up under 265 pounds of weight.

Hardware specs on the 9213 include a frugal 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor that should deliver up to eight hours of battery life, a shock-protected hard drive up to 250GB, 13.3-inch WXGA screen with LED backlighting for readability outdoors, two digital microphones, 1.3-megapixel webcam, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

Like most rugged PC vendors targeting government and business buyers, Getac doesn’t list an MSRP for the 9213, but you can of course expect to pay a bit of a premium over consumer-grade alternatives. More information, including a complete spec list, can be found at Getac.

Built for business, this Dell laptop with 64GB of RAM is 35% off
Dell Precision 5470 front angled view showing display and keyboard deck.

While many laptops tend to be focused on consumers, there's a whole market for more professional-oriented laptops, and in Dell's case, those are their Precision workstations. These laptops often have a lot of high-end specs, making them perfect for everything from video editing to CAD and programming. Of course, all that power comes at a price, and while this Precision 7680 Workstation is incredibly powerful, it does usually go for an eye-watering $7,225. Luckily, there is a deal on Dell that discounts it significantly, all the way down to $4,699, so if you've ever wanted to own a Dell Workstation, now is your chance.

Why you should buy the Dell Precision 7680 Workstation
Starting off with the processor, this configuration of the Precision 7680 has an incredible Intel Core i9-13950HX vPro, possibly one of the most powerful processors on the market right now, and is built to handle things like complex simulations, including things like modeling aerodynamics and things of that nature. That also makes it perfect for other tasks, including things like music production, video editing, and even transcoding content when it comes to streaming. It also has 64GB of 5200MT/s CAMM memory, which is essentially professional-grade RAM that is perfect for more RAM-intensive tasks such as programming or CAD work.

How we test laptops

You’ve read our laptop reviews. You’ve read our conclusions. And now you’re wondering how we came to them.

Good question. Reviews often lack context, which is evident in the wildly different scores some laptops receive from different publications. Conflicting opinions can actually make choosing a laptop more difficult if the review’s criteria aren’t made clear.
