Google Gets A GreenBorder

Google Gets A GreenBorderThe Internet behemoth known as Google continues to stride ahead. It was announced yesterday that the company had acquired GreenBorder Technologies, Inc., which will give Google both antivirus and anti-spam capabilities.   No details of the deal were available. In fact, the only notification appeared on the GreenBorder web site, where a brief statement noted,   “GreenBorder Technologies, Inc. has been acquired by Google, Inc. We will continue to supportour existing customers through the end of their current subscriptions.”   Founded in 2001, the California-based GreenBorder has made a name for itself with security products for bothconsumers and businesses. However, the company’s products guard against viruses, Trojans and spyware in a distinctly different way. In essence, the product puts each Internet session, be it Webbrowsing or e-mail, in a form of quarantine. Once you’ve finished that session, GreenBorder’s software will discard everything. Each session is isolated from every other session, as wellas the remainder of the system. To let you know the software is working, there is a green border around the page.   The deal would seem to have been in the works for a couple of weeks, accordingto rumors, and there’s been speculation over the last two years that the GreenBorder system would work well as part of a toolbar – which Google, of course, offers.   Google has notoffered any comment so far on the acquisition or its plans for GreenBorder.

You’ll never guess what Google’s ‘biggest focus’ will be in 2025

Google plans to prioritize scaling its Gemini AI for consumers in the new year, CEO Sundar Pichai told employees during a strategy meeting held earlier this month. The company is facing increased competition from rivals like Perplexity and OpenAI as emerging AI technologies reinvent web search. The company has come under added scrutiny from federal regulators as well this year.

“I think 2025 will be critical,” Pichai remarked to employees assembled at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, as well as those attending virtually. “I think it’s really important we internalize the urgency of this moment, and need to move faster as a company. The stakes are high. These are disruptive moments. In 2025, we need to be relentlessly focused on unlocking the benefits of this technology and solve real user problems.”

Google one-ups Microsoft by making chats easier to transfer
Google Spaces in Google Chat on a MacBook.

In a recent blog post, Google announced that it is making it easier for admins to migrate from Microsoft Teams to Google Chat to reduce downtime. Admins can easily do this within the Google Chat migration menu and connect to opposing Microsoft accounts to transfer Teams data.

Google gave step-by-step instructions for admins on how to transfer the messages. Admins need to connect to their Microsoft account and upload a CSV of the Teams from where they transfer the messages. From there, it requires just entering a starting date for messages to be migrated from Teams and clicking Star migration. Once it's complete, it'll make the migrated space, messages, and conversation data available to Google Workspace users.
