Hands-on with Asus Top touchscreen PC

At long last, we have “touched” the new Asus Top ET1602, a touchscreen device that could help pave the way for a future of mouseless computting. The device, which only supports single-touch and not multi-touch ala the Apple iPhone, will be worth the wait when it ships sometimes in the new few weeks.

We were a bit incredulous since the PC uses Windows XP, has a small 15.6-inch screen, and a pokey Intel Atom N270 CPU. Yet, the touch device responded quickly to each finger touch.

The PC comes in white or black, has cool icons for touching up photos, sports Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n, has a 160GB hard disk, and weighs just 4.3kg. we were impressed by how easy it is to use compared to the trendy but too-small EEE laptop.

This cybersecurity disaster made Google’s top 10 searches of 2024
The blue screen of death in Windows.

Google recently released its Year in Search 2024, with a wide range of different topics reaching the top 10. Among major events like the Olympics and the U.S. presidential election is one name you may have forgotten about, but will remember for the chaos it caused. I'm talking, of course, about CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity firm founded in 2011 in Austin, Texas — the same one that was (at least partially) responsible for the largest IT outage ever.

So, what did CrowdStrike do exactly to earn its spot on the list? In a nutshell, it's responsible for the faulty code that meddled with core functions on the affected Windows computers. The error displayed messages on users' PCs saying: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart." The result was downed PCs across the country, affecting a wide range of industries, but most notably, airports. From an IT perspective, this was a nightmare scenario.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a PC killer — in the best way
Indiana Jones standing in a forest with a whip.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has no business looking as good as it does. The game is demanding, and there are some minor issues, but the work of MachineGames and the id Tech 7 engine paint over the seams that have become all too obvious in modern PC releases. For the most part, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a seamless experience. For the first time in a long time, it's a game that feels held back by hardware of today more so than optimization.

It's a wonderful experience, and one that you can take part in even if you don't have the best graphics card in your gaming PC -- given a few key compromises. There are some problems I'd like to see addressed in future updates, some of which are already in the works.
