Hotmail Updates Its Redesign

When Microsoft updated the look and abilities of its Hotmail service in October, a number of the changes didn’t sit well with users, who weren’t shy about letting the company know how they felt.

Now there’s been a new Hotmail update that addresses many of the criticisms. People had said that the new design didn’t work well with their screen size, that accessing mail and folders wasn’t easy, and that forwarding and replying to messages was difficult.

So Hotmail has now made the site scroll the way Hotmail used to before the update, which should satisfy many, and is promising more changes. In a blog post the Windows Live Hotmail team wrote:

"Thanks again to all of you who have passed along your feedback about Hotmail’s releases. We’ve used your feedback to add some key updates quickly before the new year."

The company has also resolved problems with contact picker, and users can now open a message from the inbox in a new window by clicking it and holding down the shift key.

This Lenovo ThinkPad is usually $2,399 — today it’s $984
The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s facing forward.

Looking for awesome laptop deals? Lenovo is always one of the best places to go, and right now it has some fantastic deals for anyone seeking a business laptop ahead of 2025. Right now you can buy the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 4 laptop for $984. According to Lenovo, that’s a huge price cut of 59%, or $1,415. Granted, Lenovo is a little optimistic with its "estimated value" system. However, $984 for these specs is pretty good, regardless of the original price. Here’s what it provides.

Why you should buy the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 4
Lenovo is one of the best laptop brands for business users in particular thanks to building robust laptops that are designed to last a long time. With this Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 4, you get a 13th-generation Intel Core i5-1335U CPU alongside 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. Those are strong starting points for a work PC. More storage space may have been nice, but it’s not a huge issue, and in a work context you’re likely to use additional storage like cloud services or one of the best external hard drives.

Yes, it’s real: ChatGPT has its own 800 number
1-800-chatgpt

On the 10th of its "12 Days of OpenAI" media event, the company announced that it has set up an 800 number (1-800-ChatGPT, of course) where anyone in the U.S. with a phone line can dial in and speak with the AI via Advanced Voice Mode. Because why not.

“[The goal of] OpenAI is to make artificial general intelligence beneficial to all of humanity, and part of that is making it as accessible as possible to as many people as we can,” the company's chief product officer, Kevin Weil, said during the Wednesday live stream. “Today, we’re taking the next step and bringing ChatGPT to your telephone.”

Apple Maps for web adds Look Around, its Street View-like feature
Apple Maps' Look Around feature on the web.

Apple launched Apple Maps for the web five months ago, but it was in beta and had limited features. As it gradually builds it up to become a serious competitor to Google Maps, Apple has now added Look Around, its own version of Street View that lets you explore your surroundings via panoramic imagery collected by camera-equipped cars, 9to5Mac reported. Look Around launched for Apple Maps' mobile and desktop versions in 2019, so it's great to see that it's finally made it to the web version.

You can use the Look Around feature on Apple Maps for the web by selecting the binoculars icon at the top right of the display. Similar to the Apple Maps desktop app, you click on the image to proceed along the street in a satisfyingly smooth way, or drag the picture around to survey your surroundings. When you launch it, the Look Around view only takes up a portion of the display, so as you move along the street, you can check the binoculars icon to keep track of your current position. You can also go full-screen by selecting the arrows on the Look Around viewer.
