Is Android Coming To Netbooks?

It might still only be available on one phone – the T-Mobile G1 – but Google’s Android OS is starting to make waves in the netbook world.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, HP is considering using Android, and is testing it on a new line of netbooks, although it’s not yet known if they’ll ever be commercially available. HP’s PC division vice president Satjiv Chachil said:

"We want to assess the capability Android may have for the computer and communications industries, so we are studying it."

The Register has reported that Asus is likely to release an Android-powered netbook within the next 12 months, and it’s believed Dell will tap the OS for a new smartphone.

We just spotted a great printer deal at Amazon: Currently, you can buy the HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e wireless all-in-one color inkjet printer for $190 instead of $260, so you’re saving $70 or 27% off the usual price. Even better, it comes with a year’s worth of Instant Ink included, so you’re all set for the next 12 months. This is a limited time deal and won’t be around forever. Let’s take a quick look at what it has to offer before you miss out.

Why you should buy the HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e printer
Best designed for anyone looking for a home office printer, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e printer is a great option. It offers printing, scanning, copying, and faxing (remember that?). It can print up to 20 pages per minute in black or 10 pages per minute in color. It also has auto two-sided printing along with an auto document feeder. There’s a 225 sheet input tray so it’s all fairly hands off once you set it up, as you'd expect from one of the best printer brands.

This speedy RAM is a world’s first, but the even faster DDR5-10000 is coming
An Asgard THOR RAM stick in front of a rock.

While some of the best RAM kits reach speeds as high as 8,400MT/s, many users stick to DDR5-6000 or less and do just fine. However, the future of RAM lies in even higher frequencies, and we're not far from entering five-digit territory. Asgard, a company that manufactures memory and storage, just unveiled its new DDR5-9600 RAM, claiming that it's the first consumer memory in the world to reach this kind of speed. The company also teased that it's already working on DDR5-10000 RAM.

Asgard's RAM isn't your standard, run-of-the-mill dual-in-line memory module (DIMM). It's a clocked unbuffered DIMM (CUDIMM), which might one day become the default in desktop RAM (unless another standard, such as CAMM2, takes off in a major way). At higher speeds, maintaining signal integrity becomes challenging. One of the ways manufacturers combat this problem is by adding a clock driver (CKD) chip.  The CKD handles the base clock signal, buffers and amplifies it, and then distributes it to various parts of the module.
